You need a primer in British tribal history. They’ve done DNA studies.
independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/celts-descended-from-spanish-fishermen-study-finds-416727.html
A team from Oxford University has discovered that the Celts, Britain’s indigenous people, are descended from a tribe of Iberian fishermen who crossed the Bay of Biscay 6,000 years ago. DNA analysis reveals they have an almost identical genetic “fingerprint” to the inhabitants of coastal regions of Spain, whose own ancestors migrated north between 4,000 and 5,000BC.
The discovery, by Bryan Sykes, professor of human genetics at Oxford University, will herald a change in scientific understanding of Britishness.
Have a primer

Not for nothing, but reading here today would give you the same impression of some Catholics. Now I know that a lot of it is coming from a place of disappointment, but there are still posters calling other Americans evil, selfish, greedy, lazy…all because they voted for the “wrong” person.
Yes but I understand their disappointment too. I’ve been disappointed in election results many times and no doubt will be again in the future. That’s part of the ebb and flow of American politics.

I hope you’re wrong bellasbane. I just heard Harry Reid say it is time for bipartisanship but we need Republicans to join us in that effort.
Harry Reid has no credibility when speaking of bipartisanship. Nearly every Republican House bill sent to the Senate was tabled without comment or vote. He is paying lip service to the word ‘bipartisanship’. It’s the Democrat’s way or no way, similar to 2008-2010.

Harry Reid is one of the biggest hyppocrites in DC.

I suggest that since most of us prayed to God about this election, thanks are due to Him regardless of how we feel about the answer.
I disagree with your implication that, since many people were praying, the outcome is what God wanted.

Praying to God about an election involves God changing people’s hearts one way or another, if He actually cares who is elected. When He tries to give His grace to people to help them vote correctly, they, having free will, do not have to accept it.

So, I don’t think Obama is an answer to prayer, as you are implying.

CNN reported that 50% of Catholics voted for Obama.
Church-attendance numbers tell a different story
As has been widely reported, President Obama carried the Catholic vote in yesterday’s election. But more detailed voter information is now starting to appear, and a more complicated picture emerges. Fox News’ exit poll took into account the frequency with which believers attend religious services, and reported that among Catholics who attend Mass weekly, 57 percent voted for Romney and 42 percent voted for Obama.
Some other interesting exit-poll information: among believers of all religions, those who attend services weekly went 59-39 for Romney, and those who said they attend “occasionally” went 55-43 for Obama. Those who thought abortion should be illegal in most/all cases went for Romney by 76 and 79 percent, respectively; those who believe their state should not legalize same-sex marriage went 74-25 in Romney’s favor.

So, I was jogging at the gym today at lunch (too cold outside) and watching the news. At the bottom was the results of national exit polling. I thought it was very interesting:

Obama voters:
Minority
Women
Mothers
18-44 age group
People who don’t attend church
Catholics

Romney Voters:
Whites
Men
Fathers
45+ age group
People who attend church weekly
Evangelicals

A stark contrast.
I’m wondering why they limited specific faith groups to only Catholics and Evangelicals. 🤷 There are mainline to liberal Christians and many non Christian faiths.

Woke up early my time 5am and first thing I checked was the result, very very sad but not surprised. The western world seem similar in their voting patterns, I think I am right in saying. Conservative Cameron fully supports gay marrage which doesn’t leave me much choice for whom to vote for in the next general election, when your country gets this bad then really start to worry.

If you go out to Pew Research, you’ll see that they really don’t amount to too much statistically anymore taken separately. You have to add all the mainline churches up and it’s still less than evangelicals and it’s also less than the Catholics. It didn’t used to be this way but it is now. They’re in the process of liberalizing themselves out of existence and the evangelicals have taken up the slack.

BTW, the non-Christian religions have a VERY minor share in the USA, regardless of all the nonsense you hear about them. Most Americans have little to no idea what they really consist of, even.

On the other hand, the incidence of new age and occultism is growing like an explosion, particularly among the young of this country, and Pew doesn’t report that as a mutually exclusive category. They’re found throughout the other groups.

Hmm. Ok. Well I suppose everyone who is a person of faith who is not Catholic or Evangelical doesnt know then they don’t exist.

That makes no sense at all. Of course Methodists and Presbyterians know that evangelicals and Catholics exist. They also know they exist, and as few of them as they are they probably know each others’ phone numbers.

Catholics act like they’re the only ones that exist sometimes  but it’s not true and deep down they know that, even when they have no idea what other Christians do except for hearsay.
