Well, free health insurance for one. Free phones. Free broadband. Free birth control.
Everything provided by federal tax money is free to those who contribute nothing to the federal treasury, including highways, federal parks, etc. Those who pay federal taxes must pony up our ‘fair share’ for everyone’s benefit.

We entered this race with a lacking show of candidates, and almost won in spite of it. Many souls opened their eyes in this past year. The final chapter hasn’t been inked yet.
I agree, and as it says in the book of Romans, God will give us over to our sins. I believe that is true for each person, and to entire nations.

This is fear mongering. Romney got about half of the popular vote.
True. Nevertheless, Obama will be president for four years, and Harry Reid will be the lord of the Senate. They, along with the media will beat the House Repubs incessantly. Boehner will still be the speaker, and he can be bullied, as we have seen. The left will rule this nation for the foreseeable future, and no one should cherish any illusions that it will not. The left is totalitarian (okay “authoritarian” if you prefer) to its core and it will take full advantage of what the majority of voters gave it. And it will be more wide-ranging than I think most of us perceive.

I think it was Rhett Butler, of all people who said: (and I paraphrase) “There are fortunes to be made in the building up of a nation and fortunes to be made in its tearing down.” That does not apply only to money.

The question now, for the 48% or 49% of the populace who opposed Obama (more accurately, perhaps, those who surround him and back him) is how to make the unraveling of the country we thought we knew (most definitely including the oppression of religion by the state, which will be ongoing) work for them and for their families.

Personally, I took some survival actions before this election, have formulated others and have considerably more thought to put to this. As I believe the central feature of the Obamagroup program is the “Alinsky formula”; the purchase of the less prosperous 50% of the middle class at the expense, almost entirely, of the more prosperous 50% (the truly rich will be little, if any, affected, and the truly poor will not be helped) a person just over the line or who aspires to it, has a lot of work to do in preserving the prosperity of his own family. In moral terms, a Catholic has to realize that fully 50% of his co-religionists stand in defiance of the teachings of his religion. One may keep his own faith to himself (like my Irish ancestors were forced to do) but one must ensure that the deposit of the true faith is passed on to his children and grandchildren. We can perhaps positively affect some outside our families, but we cannot save the world. It is, however, within our power to save those to whom we owe the greatest duty. The Good Samaritan, remember, did not save all of the Roman Empire. He saved the one man nearest to him, and who it was possible to save. And, in this nation as it is now, that will be an ever-increasing challenge in a moral sense, as the American Church’s leaders, late to the challenge by decades, have been roundly defied by half of their own who, like the English Catholics of Henry VIII’s time, chose to stand with the earthly ruler rather than with the Church.

How very Ironic it is that those whose way of life and way of thinking oriented them to making their own way in the world are now much more “on their own” than ever they thought, through the ascendency of thinking so contrary to their own.

And how very strange is that aspect of humankind that somehow causes threats to be invigorating; that somehow causes defeats to firm one’s resolution.

And so, now to work. Be of good cheer!

A bit late to the party, I’m sure, but my state (Minnesota) shot down the marriage amendment. By next election, the Republican’s traditional base (white, older, tend to be Christian) will have lost a lot to the younger, more liberal, more ethicnically diverse base of the Democrats. The Republicans will need to find new friends.
I feel God is trying to stear this nation to a better place. Sometimes a person, or a nation, must reach their bottom, before they will turn back to God. Four years is a long time…much can happen and I suspect an awful lot will. There seems to be a spiritual quickening in recent times.

To those given much, much is expected, and as a people, and as a nation, we have not held-up our end…instead we just keep choosing the deeply sinful path.

A Romney victory might have made things better for the USA, yet it would not have stopped the rapid embrace of deep sin across our nation.

If the GOP doesnt adapt itself to the new emerging demographics of the 21st century, it will die.

The demographics of the USA is not our parents or our grandparents.

GOP needs to get out ahead of that.

And the Obama being in position to put 2-3 supreme court justices on the bench, well, we all understand those ramifications.

Actually, I’m not one to get overly excited. Governing is tough and the problems are many. I will take great joy in watching Sean Hannity this evening, however.

I might even listen to Rush, just in case his head explodes on air
I suppose THIS is charitable.

I actually think that would be a good idea, since most of the recipients are able bodied and can work, they would just rather collect the dole. So why should these lazy people get the right to vote?
Let’s go back to only white males who own land. That is what the “founding fathers” intended.

Did you notice that neither candidate had any real plan for reforming entitlements?

I disagree. I think if the USA does not stop embracing deep sin, this nation will die and political parties will not matter at all then.

Let’s face the truth–if Catholics truly followed their faith, Democrats would never get elected until they changed their platform, and Republicans would find it hard too until they came more to center in terms of helping those around us. Both parties are steeped in deep sin, though I feel the left is far more steeped in it.

The problem is not the parties–it is an increasing lack of true Godly morals and values. We, as a nation, have said no to God for decades, and we are now reaping what we have sown. Perhaps it is too late for the USA, yet with God all things are possible.

We live in a time in which we need many, many Saints to help bring back people.

I’m done with political shows, just as I’m done with the political process. I will never vote again. As a result of last night’s election, I am joining the millions of Americans who ignore elections, legislation, and judicial decisions, regardless of how it affects their individual or family lives. I will pay my taxes and abide by the law. If Catholic charities, universities, and hospitals are forced to close because of the HHS mandate, so be it. America has spoken. I will not listen anymore.
Disappointment clouds judgment, but really…I do understand the sentiment. Our job as Catholics now is to do what we’ve always done - pray that hearts turn back to God and the spiral of moral depravity this nation is wallowing in, via secular government, be lessened by the suffering that is surely to come, and even perhaps by the retribution that will be inflicted upon the godly. I expect our good bishops will pay the price for their courageous actions in condemning those things this administration is intent upon harming us with. In other words, watch out - I suspect there will be no holds barred now.

Sin has been and will always be. That isnt going to change. Including in this country’s history.

What have they done wrong? Hannity pays big taxes in New York state and stays there and so is a very good citizen. Rush clearly pays big taxes, he may support dozens of Obama supporters. They have no shame for wanting a better nation and being well educated.

You can be happy with Prince Charming and his votes for live babies to be left to die.

I agree–but in the USA it has NEVER been like it is now. Last night a party that embraces many truly grave sins won.

Howeverr, people won’t admit any of this–instead they will say the GOP is out of touch (even though the GOP only lost by 1.5%). It is difficult for people to acknowledge the depth of sinfulness to which we have fallen.

The only way Republicans will ever win again is if they become pro tax, pro spend, and pro abortion. If they do that they might as well be Democrats.

And with all due respect, one could argue that difference comes down to entitlements. We are our brothers’ keeper indeed but in the long run, this may well not work.
