The GOP lost to a very vulnerable President. Add to that the fact that they got hammered in the Senate races. If things continue, the House will be next.I agree–but in the USA it has NEVER been like it is now. Last night a party that embraces many truly grave sins won.
Howeverr, people won’t admit any of this–instead they will say the GOP is out of touch (even though the GOP only lost by 1.5%). It is difficult for people to acknowledge the depth of sinfulness to which we have fallen.
Obama was an easy target. The fact that the Republican Party did not take the Senate and the Presidency shows that something was wrong with the way the campaign was handled.I disagree. I think if the USA does not stop embracing deep sin, this nation will die and political parties will not matter at all then.
Let’s face the truth–if Catholics truly followed their faith, Democrats would never get elected until they changed their platform, and Republicans would find it hard too until they came more to center in terms of helping those around us. Both parties are steeped in deep sin, though I feel the left is far more steeped in it.
Nonsense. A two percent shift to Romney last night and he wins. Obama is a very popular President and his numbers shot-up after Sandy. Popular incumbents are difficult to beat every cycle. The only way Republicans will ever win again is if they become pro tax, pro spend, and pro abortion. If they do that they might as well be Democrats.
There are some folks on this forum who would agree with this and still claim they represent American values of freedom and democracy.Let’s go back to only white males who own land. That is what the “founding fathers” intended.
Can you provide a list of those who advocate that only white male landowners should vote? There are some folks on this forum who would agree with this and still claim they represent American values of freedom and democracy.
From a strictly worldly pov, I agree with much of what you are saying. If the GOP had given-up its values, they would have won easily. However, my main point is that this nation is steeped in near run away grave sin, and that is because so many people have lost their faith. If people held fast to God and their faith, they would apply that to their life choices, including voting.Obama was an easy target. The fact that the Republican Party did not take the Senate and the Presidency shows that something was wrong with the way the campaign was handled.
My opinion is that the country is just about equally split, and that moderate centrists are the “swing” vote. Every president now wins by a very narrow margin. The Republicans put up a presidential candidate who has a moderate record, but who veered to the far right in his campaign rhetoric and his platform. That, in itself, was confusing and seemed dishonest. It didn’t help when he kept changing his positions at the end of the race. This only contributed to the perception that he was one thing, while trying to appear to be another. Adding an extreme right running mate did not help to win any votes from the center.
The republican party already had the far right vote. It certainly was not going to the democratic party. The strategy was the wrong one for this election. If they had put up a moderate candidate, who endorsed a moderately conservative platform, and had not advanced extreme ideas, like vouchers for medical care, I think that they could have easily won the center, and the election.
Every moderate voter that I know is sick and tired of the failure to compromise in the legislative process. Sick of it, and disgusted. Standing up and talking about how he would work in a bipartisan manner, while everyone knew about his choice of running mate, was seen as disingenuous. Ryan is not a compromiser. He does not work well with others. He is the man who would have been settling ties in the Senate. He seems bright and competent, but too far to the right to attract the center vote, which is the key to winning elections in the US.
Did my comment hit a nerve? That generally means there is some truth to it.Can you provide a list of those who advocate that only white male landowners should vote?
I didn’t thinks so.Can you provide a list of those who advocate that only white male landowners should vote?
Kind of like asking Obama about his second term agenda.I didn’t thinks so.
Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement about President Obama’s re-election:
"The collision course of the Obama Administration with the Catholic Church could have been averted yesterday, but now it is assured instead.
"It is therefore time to recommit ourselves to the basics: a clear proclamation of the truth, an uncompromising fidelity to our principles, and an unwavering commitment to civil disobedience.
"Many in Church leadership failed to connect the dots between personnel and policy. They prayed and preached against the HHS mandate, but then were silent about the election, and called the police to remove citizens who leafleted the Church parking lot trying to inform voters about where the candidates stood on this issue.
"Meanwhile, the national pro-life groups have done outstanding work in this year’s election, with initiatives, creativity, and energy as great as I have ever seen, and there is no doubt that the election results would have been far worse without that activity.
"The pro-life cause will prevail in America. In the elections of 2014, we will work for a pro-life Senate majority to further blunt the ability of President Obama to damage the cause of life.
"And in the meantime we will continue the cultural progress that is so clearly on the side of life, as more minds and hearts embrace the unborn, as more abortion mills close, and as more women and men speak up about how abortion harmed them.
Video - Post Election 2012“I invite all pro-life people to join me and other pro-life leaders tonight to discuss our next steps on a national pro-life webcast to take place from 9 to 10pm ET. Sign up at www.ElectionWebcast.org.”
Beautiful thing about American politics is nothign is permanent, what happens today can be changed tomorrow, what happens in this election can be changed in the next election
This is so. On the other side of the coin, you have those who say the GOP did not run a real conservative. I think too, that the Mainstream Media is very friendly to Obama has something to do with it too. From a strictly worldly pov, I agree with much of what you are saying. If the GOP had given-up its values, they would have won easily. However, my main point is that this nation is steeped in near run away grave sin, and that is because so many people have lost their faith. Our nation, imho, will continue to have great pain no matter which party is in control, until we wake-up and turn back to God. If we continue to refuse to turn to God, then I fear our nation may fall into the dust bin of history as so many have.
The problem is NOT moderates, or quality candidates–the problem is an authentic loss of faith and values for at least half of the people in this nation, perhaps much higher.
then he tells her “go and sin no more”You are not the judge of my soul only God is. I can just imagine what your response would be if you lived in Jesus’ time and saw Jesus talking to the enemy of the Jew, A Sumarian women at the well. She had five husbands and in today’s vernacular was shacking up with another. What did Jesus say? Did he judge her? Condemn her? He said something astonishing. If you knew who you were talking to, I would give you Living Water so that you may never thirst again…referencing the Holy Spirit. Then there was the women caught in adultery, a grave sin punishable by death. He who is without sin, throw the first stone? Is there no one left? No my Lord. Neither do I condemn you
No, no nerve hit, just interested in the truth. I kind of look at it like accusations of racism, people make such claims all the time with no evidence, you just learn to ignore it.Did my comment hit a nerve? That generally means there is some truth to it.
You know, you really gave me false hope. I have a question for you - and this is honest; I’m genuinely curious and ignorant of the correct answer:About the only thing I voted for that won
I had a good election night. How about you?I didn’t thinks so.
No need for demonizing. The fact is that a vast majority of election districts vote for Republicans, even in many extreme left-leaning states. Just go to the CNN site, click on the individual states, and see for yourself. However, the urban centers have much higher populations, so the voting results of one urban district can cancel out the results of, say, 20 rural districts. Congress was split into two houses for this very reason.Your false statement is one of the major reasons that Gov. Romney lost. Demonizing a large segment of the population is no way to win a national election.
Romney lost by approx 2 million votes, he got 57 million to Obama’s 59 million, that is not 1/2 the countryI understand people are disappointed today, and I really hope that’s where some of the language is coming from. Over half the country disagreed with the GOP message-instead of calling them all lazy, sinful and greedy-maybe something about the message or it’s delivery needs to be looked at? Is it possible that there is another way to see this other than to just assume everyone who didn’t vote the way you wanted them to is somehow inferior to you?
Well spoken, Tigg. Disappointment did not cloud my judgment. I thought about the ramifications of the election before the votes were cast. I decided that if Americans accept the vision of America inspired by Obama through their vote on November 6th, they are perfectly entitled to do so. And I am free to walk my own path.Disappointment clouds judgment, but really…I do understand the sentiment. Our job as Catholics now is to do what we’ve always done - pray that hearts turn back to God and the spiral of moral depravity this nation is wallowing in, via secular government, be lessened by the suffering that is surely to come, and even perhaps by the retribution that will be inflicted upon the godly. I expect our good bishops will pay the price for their courageous actions in condemning those things this administration is intent upon harming us with. In other words, watch out - I suspect there will be no holds barred now.
