Catholics just voted for 4 more years of this, so why would you be hopeful that it will turn around??? The Church was sheepish and did not do ENOUGH to spell out the desired result, and will pay the price for it’s weak leadership.
Hmmm… I thought that the Church was outspoken. But I don’t think that American or European catholics listen, when it comes to politics, contraception, and so on… Maybe I am wrong about that. But the numbers in this election would seem to back me up.

No thanks, Cmatt. I don’t want or need your credit. I am disappointed that christians voted for an infanticide supporter. Hard to ask God to bless an America that aborts millions every year and then re-elects the most ardent support of abortion rights. Too bad for the unborn - they don’t deserve this.

Ishii
No problem Ishii. Ok I won’t give you any further credit. But I will still ask God to bless America.

Actually, I think the Bishops were as united and as bold as I have ever seen them act. However, I also think the weak faith held by more than half of all USA Catholics made the Bishops statements meaningless to them. So many Catholics have aborted their babies, and so many Catholics have/use contraception, that they refused to listen. People do not want to hear about their own sins.

Recall that God often can provide us (USA) what we need/deserve, and not what we want.

On the other hand, there were plenty of posters who said that Romney was going to win big, I imagine they must feel humbled right now.
I’m am Houston Astros fan I learned humility a long time ago I think Catholics who voted for Obama are going to learn a lot about remorse in the next four years. I will practice humility when they do.

My employees have already felt the results of the election when I dropped their health care last August Like many businesses I am now going to hire only part time employees. I will not comply with the HHS mandate no matter who is elected or by what margin

And with all due respect, one could argue that difference comes down to entitlements. We are our brothers’ keeper indeed but in the long run, this may well not work.
Are we still to be our brother’s keeper if our brother uses free will to choose sin?

Anyone who thinks things were better in the “good old days” of this nation are in essence not so different from someone who would prefer that only landed white men were allowed to vote. They do not lament the loss of a reality, but the loss of white male privilege in a world marked by racism, sexism and discrimination.
Ah, white male privilege. Darn those founding fathers.

Luckily, we are now in a post-patriarchal, post-white-male-privilege age with no racism, sexism and discrimination.

I salute you, sir, for your faithfulness to Church doctrine. As a Cleveland Indians fan, I fully understand the concept of humility. 🙂

Your point of view is understandable. Just keep in mind that if enough employers do the same, then a single payer health care system will be the next step. The main reason that people oppose such a system now in the US, is that they think they can do better by getting health insurance through employers. If that stops happening, then they will have good reason to support a public healthcare system. When that happens, then you will be paying taxes to fund abortions and contraceptives even for people who are not insured at all presently. The longer term net result will be to make it easier for even more people than the current system does, if my analysis is correct.

Actually, I’m not one to get overly excited. Governing is tough and the problems are many. I will take great joy in watching Sean Hannity this evening, however.

I might even listen to Rush, just in case his head explodes on air
Oh, now is when the prayers are needed more than ever, but I will freely admit to doing mental cartwheels that we don’t have a President Romney.

I read of a man who owned a real estate company. He said if Romney won, he would likely hire 100 people in 2013. If Obama won, he said he would hire perhaps 8 people in 2013. The reason he gave is that he would hold onto excess funds so he can cover whatever additional taxes and fees that would come down. I think he is not alone–many companies have planned the same thing. Yes?

There are some folks on this forum who would agree with this and still claim they represent American values of freedom and democracy.
An ignorant generalization, on top of an ignorant generalization. Let’s just pretend everything is dualistic. I suppose some people will never believe we could “possibly” combine the best of both worlds.

I think you would be turned off republicans regardless
Not sure why you would think that…once upon a time Fox was my news source of choice - hands down! So I COMPLETELY understand how Gen. Colin Powell feels.

Let them do what they want…their competitors will benefit and they’ll blame Obama. 🤷

Pope Congratulates President Obama, Stresses Freedom and Justice
Pope Benedict XVI has sent his best wishes to Barack Obama on his re-election as president of the United States, while also highlighting the president’s “serious responsibilities” and the nation’s “ideals of freedom and justice.”
In a message, conveyed through the apostolic nunciature in Washington, the Pope “expresses his best wishes to the president on his new mandate and gives assurances of his prayers to God to help him carry out his serious responsibilities, both in his own country and within the international community,” a Vatican statement reads.
“The Pope also speaks of his hope that the ideals of freedom and justice, which guided the Founding Fathers of the United States of America, may continue to shine out as the nation progresses,” it continues.
The same statement also contains comments on the election results made by the Holy See Press Office’s director, Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, in response to questions from reporters:
“As we all know, the U.S. president has an immense responsibility, not only in his own country, but also towards the rest of the world, given the role the U.S.A. plays at an international level,” Father Lombardi said.
“For this reason, we hope that President Obama, reconfirmed in his duties today by the elections just completed, will respond to his fellow citizens’ expectations, serving law and justice for the good and development of all people and respecting essential human and spiritual values while promoting a culture of life and religious freedom — always so precious in the tradition of the American people and its culture — so that it can find the best ways to promote the material and spiritual welfare of all; so that it can effectively promote integral human development, justice and peace in the world.”
My emphases

Well, there’s something else we can thank Obama for, then. Great.

BroomWagon;9986388:
One thing is for sure, Obama won overwhelmingly from people who don’t pay taxes,

Obama doesn’t win unless he wins cities like Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, MIami.

These are other demographics to remember as well.
It doesn’t seem that message will ever get through to where it’s needed.
