CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS writes that worrying too much about American casualties empowers the insurgency.
Honoring the fallen is a good thing. Our casualties have been so light compared to the numbers who died in Vietnam that it is worthwhile for Americans, most of whom don’t know any soldiers who are in Iraq, to be reminded of the ultimate sacrifice some have made.Which is why CBS News runs “Fallen Heros” all the time. And why Democrats in Congress staged a marathon reciting the names of those lost.
Chris Hitchens is one of those reporters just like in the nursery rhyme about the little girl with a curl in the middle of her forehead, when he is good, he is very good and when he is bad, he is horrid. As a general rule I disregard anything Christopher Hitchens has to say. The guy hates Mother Theresa, Catholicism, God, and religion in general. I see no reason to care about his viewpoint about the war or anything else.
Truly part of the greatest generationI know this isn’t really about the topic of the thread, but I thought it a good place to make a plug for the Marine Corps. I’m in the Navy and work with about 325 Marines, and every one I’ve talked to, without exception, would rather be in Iraq next to their fellow Marines, than be here stateside. Every one! I can’t tell you how proud I am of these young Marines, who are ready and willing to go fight, and even die, in order to secure freedom for people they don’t even know. Unfortunately, the media agenda is not to show the bravery and selflessness of these young men and women, but to show how horrible and wrong this war is. Whether or not it’s really justified, I don’t know, but we’re there and we should show our support for those who are fighting it. Let’s pray for our armed forces and for anyone else who is making a sacrifice for the sake of freedom.
HOORAH, Marines!!!
