Hi Janet, you stated “Or it goes to show that people should read their Bible a little more often” to the statement made by anp1215 (This to me just further proves why the magisterium is needed.) this is so true; people should and need to read and pray on Sacred Scripture. I would not diminish this practice one bit. However, I think the point is that the magisterium as a single governing entity on matters of faith and morals is needed to set one standard and one interpretation of Sacred Scripture for the Church. It brings order to chaos. Anything that the magisterium would pronounce would be based on Sacred Scripture. You have to admit that there are those who proclaim that Sacred Scripture supports some of the issues associated with moral decay. Look at this issue alone. Peace.
Granted, for all those who are Catholic.
Said issue however is rather clearly found in Scripture. Homosexual activity is not commended in Scripture. On the contrary.
It doesn’t take a Ph.D. to figure that one out. It only takes a Ph.D. to distort it…
Romans 1:26-27 (HCSB)
“This is why God delivered them over to degrading passions. For even their females exchanged natural sexual intercourse for what is unnatural. The males in the same way also left natural sexual intercourse with females and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Males committed shameless acts with males and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty for their perversion.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (HCSB)
“Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: no sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.”
(I believe the context shows that all of these require action. Just being homosexual doesn’t make one part of that group mentioned here.)
1 Timothy 1:9-10 (HCSB)
“We know that the law is not meant for a righteous person, but for the lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinful, for the unholy and irreverent, for those who kill their fathers and mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral and homosexuals, for kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and for whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching”
(I believe the context shows that all of these require action. Just being homosexual doesn’t make one part of that group mentioned here.)
Jude 1:7 (HCSB)
“In the same way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them committed sexual immorality and practiced perversions, just as they did, and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.”
