Because those regions are still Mission territory for the most part… It makes sense there would be less Catholics, and therefore priests, and therefore cardinals, and therefore Popes from those regions.

The Filipinos or Vietnamese deserve a Pope in my opinion. Heavily Catholic countries. Somegreat priests too.

I’d be very afraid of a Filipino pope. LOL (based on how the Church is in the Philippines).

What about Irish? I’ve yet to meet an Irish priest that wasn’t awesome!

Absolutely. but those countries are no longer mission territory.

Imagine China producing a Catholic Pope one day!
Buckleys or none?

I certainly hope no one is implying that racism in one group should be given a pass because it exists in another group.

How about this: let’s eradicate racial supremacist thought from Christianity.

We shouldn’t pick people based on ethnicity. Best man should get the job period.

I think it’s improper to say that anyone ‘deserves’ the papacy… it’s an amazing gift to be the vicar of Christ on earth, one I dont think any person, ethnicity, or nation ‘deserves’.

Where are you possibly coming up with that from post? What do you think I am suggesting?

This is due largely to no mass transportation nor Mass communication for centuries.
People for vote for the people they know.
Times have changed, things have shifted, everybody travels by plane, all communication is better now. There has been no conspiracy.
All we need is to continue to have holy men become Pope. Nationality has little to do with leadership.

That pastor seems to have gotten caught up in the personality cult that dominated the last election. He lost what a pastor is supposed to be focused on. The spiritual needs of the souls he is shepherding.

I think political focus on discrimination against ethnic minorities has formed laws that, for the most part, adequately correct the problem. At this time the movement has lost a constructive purpose and fosters within it’self a false sense of victimization and entitlement. It’s momentum is unnecessary. It’s a solution without a cause now and has become what it claims to be against.

I would like to think that popes are chosen for their personality, holiness and factors other than what country or what nationality they are.

Not too much is wrong with heritage, especially if it is based in Christ.
This is true as far as it goes, but probably not in the sense that you intended it.

Christ ends the need for a pure “heritage,” as he fulfilled the only heritage that mattered when he lived a perfect life according to the Law. The only good heritage the Christian can claim is that of Christ, and Him crucified. It is a heritage of sacrifice, of love, of obedience unto death. It is not a worldly heritage of nations or cultures or family trees. See what Christ and his Apostles have to say about human heritage:
And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. (Matthew 3:9)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16)
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)
If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. (James 2:8-9)
Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment. (John 7:24)
No human heritage matters-- yes, that’s true even (especially!) of ‘Western’ culture. The myth that the West is built on Christianity or is somehow inherently Christian should be refuted before more folks wind up thinking that Jesus was an American who loved BBQ, apple pie and the Star-Spangled Banner.

Can a Christian be please or proud of his earthly country? Where it does good, absolutely. But he should do so with the understanding that his earthly country is not his home.

Freedom of speech and causing physical harm or death to others are 2 different things. Maybe you should learn the difference.

Thank you for your post. That clears up things for me. My glasses were
foggy.

So, we can love our heritage, correct? But, we can’t be partial in love.

How does one love heritage while not being partial in love? What’s the
solution?
