How about you just let me know? I don’t spend money of Ferrara books and since I don’t know anyone who has a copy of that one, you’ll have to enlighten me. Does he say she didn’t have a stroke?
He clearly catalogues the powerplay that forced her out – which had nothing to do with her strokes. Ferrara spent an entire chapter documenting what happened – and I don’t have the time to summarize it all.

:amen:

I love EWTN and I love Mother Angelica…
I think that everybody loves Mother Angelica – the point is that EWTN no longer equals Mother Angelica, despite the fact that they roll her out every once in a while to lead the Rosary or in reruns. You’ll notice, however, that they don’t rerun episodes in which she’s critical of the bishops, and sometimes she was – justifiably – very harsh. It’s that criticism which caused the bishops to go after her and wrest control of the network from her.

I stream EWTN TV and radio to my Treo and listen all day at work

And he got his information, from what I understand, from a doctor who was there 2 whole months before Mother left. Like I said, I don’t take a whole lot of what Ferrara “documents” to heart. I’m not buying the book. Even Sugenis had problems with it.

EWTN + DVR = never miss Corapi, Journey Home, or Sunday Night Live.
🙂 🙂 🙂

I Love EWTN- I just wish they would be able to have a TLM but I would be expecting that soon. I loved the telecast of the consecration of the Latin Mass Church in Wisconsin recently. I know once televised, the Latin Mass will evangelize itself. It is irresistible to the soul.

I thank Mother Angelica for her steadfastness and perserverance and hope she does not suffer too much since her stroke.
I always try to give our Priests the benefit of the doubt- especially Fr. Pacawa and hope soon he will be celebrating the TLM on air! Thanks be to God for all the TLM’s and the faithful that attend.

  1. I find Father Corapi spellbinding, if I can use such a word. Whenever I tune in to EWTN or local Catholic radio, and his voice is on, I cannot change the station.
  2. Is there a place where we can get more info on the ban on televising the ad orientem Mass? I bet the present pope would have a problem with such a ban.

When you are a fallen away Catholic and surfing the cable, nothing nags you like EWTN! :o 🙂 😃 I credit it with being an aid to bringing me back.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with EWTN, infact I am a big supporter. Please anyone feel free to pm me if you think differantly about EWTN. I am also a Media Missionary. EWTN is a great way to get the Catholic faith over the waves of media.
I agree. I am in a rural area of Scotland. There are Catholics here, plenty of people at Mass, but the culture is very different from in American cities. I like having something that will give me the reinforcement and support when I’m at home with the kids.

Not only did she have a stroke but it was her second one and she’s heading towards her mid-80s. No offense to Mother but a body can only take so much and still be able to function enough to run a TV station. Again, to say she was forced out is silly unless you want to say that God was the one doing the forcing.
I was surprised to read in some of the other posts she was “forced out.”

I always assumed she was no longer on the air because of her strokes and health.

I don’t think Rome “upheld” Bishop Foley’s ruling about the ad orientam Mass, but they sure didn’t do much to make him change his mind.

Bishop Foley is currently the administrator of the Diocese of Birmingham. This is one of the most important open sees in the United States. Whoever replaces Bishop Foley could well have an impact on EWTN.

I googled the issue and it is very unclear. Now that he is just the administrator, I wonder whether they could go back to ad orientem.

Ferrara spends chapters showing examples – and I don’t have the time to cite them all, and he shows before & after Mother Angela to show the shift. There are certainly many good things on the network (as Ferrara himself admints), but there are some serious issues also. You have to watch certain shows to notice.
Read Raymond Arroyo’s book which also gives an account of Mother’s step-down from the network. It was prior to the strokes, but Arroyo probably has a little different spin than Ferrara (which I admittedly have not read). Arroyo is not at all critical of the decision, but portrays Mother as making a courageous decision for all the right reasons.

Thank God for EWTN! I can’t imagine how far off track our Church might be, especially in the USA, were it not for EWTN to be a counterbalance.

I accidentally found EWTN just after the Popes death and grew to love watching it and learning so much. It brought the Church to me, which I would have never gone into alone being as it was and eventually into RCIA.
Most of the people in RCIA origionally identified EWTN as part of their journey into getting where they were on introductions day. My brother and mom followed me into RCIA…

GOD BLESS EWTN:) 🙂

I really do not think EWTN can televise a Mass ad orientam until the rule is repealed.

If Papa Benedetto appoints a bishop like Bishop Olmstead of the Diocese of Phoenix, I would look for the TLM to be offered in the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament.

Since Mother Angelica was basically kicked out at EWTN, the network has gone way downhill. Some of the stuff on their turns my stomach. I’m not even sure I want to discuss it, but suffice it to say that I can’t just leave that channel on with my children in the room.
you need to be more specific than that if you are going to trash talk like that. what have you seen on there that can possibly turn your stomach?

I love EWTN and so does my 5 year old son. They are not saying anything against the faith. They have great programs. I especially love Father John Corapi.🙂

This is just my opinion, but I think Mother Angelica had too much control of the network, and I sense she micromanaged it. I did not perceive any “succession planning” for Mother Angelica, right up to the time she had her stroke. She was on the air as soon as she could get back, paralyzed face and eyepatch and everything.
I for one miss her terribly. If it wasn’t for Mother Angelica, ***there would be no EWTN!!! ***If there was no EWTN, I doubt that I would have found the Catholic Church & converted in 1995. She is the one who brought me to the faith after I “found” her show one day in 1992, while flipping through my new cable television lineup! I loved her wit and her tell-it-like-it-is personality, she held no punches and it was charming, and mesmerizing to me. She taught me about Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. She taught me about Suffering. She taught me about Confession. She taught me about Our Blessed Mother. She is one awesome person that I would have loved to meet in person. I owe alot to her. May God continue to Bless her.

👍 EWTN…want my testimony?

In town, see on the side of the road one of those benches that people can just take a rest on…well, it was advertising local Catholic Radio…so I tune it (for some reason, lol)

(Now please remember this was about four years ago)…

I don’t remember the program, but they mentioned Priests for Life. Next thing I know, I’m on the computer, viewing that site, and wow, I’m totally Pro-Life now and contributor to Fr Pravone’s (sp?) group.

Then, I would catch “The Doctor Is In” occasionally. Now, I’m only listening while in the vehicle.

Next thing I know, I’ve grabbed a small radio and have it plugged in while I’m cooking supper, listening to Catholic Answers. And then I started to contribute to the local station.

Local station went off the air two years ago. So, I listened to Catholic Radio for two years, I became a member of this forum (heard through radio, of course)…

Now, I’m on my way home.

After four years, which started out with EWTN on radio, I’m becoming a Catholic. (and I started out as a southern Baptist, went Presbyterian, went Episcopalian…)

🤷
