My church will be having a Eucharistic Adoration for two hours and i was wondering what you do. I heard that you pray and meditate with God and just watch over the Eucharist, is this true?

:heaven: You may also: pray the rosary, read the bible & other spiritual writings, write in a journal, recite chaplets (Divine Mercy, Five Wounds, etc.), and simply sit.

These are just some of many suggestions and I know that I don’t need to explain to you about reverence and respect. I hope you have a wonderful experience, Eucharistic Adoration is the time when I, personally, am able to feel closest to God.

Thank you and i have another question. I dont actually own a rosay but i plan on geeting one, so am i allowed to pray the roary wihtout the actualy rosary?

Yes, all that.

Some will also pray the rosary or divine mercy chaplet, or read the Bible or some other spiritual reading, or pray their own prayers quietly. Some just gaze upon our Eucharistic lord. A friend of mine who is bald just sits there staring at Jesus while he rubs his head. I don’t know why, but I have seen him tdo that. It’s the funniest thing.

I have seen people going through their Bible study workbooks in adoration. That to me is cool.

I go sometimes very late at night and all I can do is yawn. I usually pray the rosary and the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

It’s all good.

Most certainly! Just count on your fingers so that you don’t lose track. Quite often, when I’m at work and can’t use a rosary, I pray it anyway. It doesn’t need to be with the actual beads.

Thank you Tim for anwering two of my questions now. You said i could read spiritual books does that include theological books suck as confessions by Saint Augustine?
Thanks Grasscutter i will do that.

You can pray the rosary any time with or without beads.

How to Recite the Holy Rosary: newadvent.org/images/rosary.pdf

You can follow along with the beads in the picture if it helps. There may be rosaries available, especially if adoration is in a chapel dedicated to Eucharistic adoration.

Confessions by Saint Augustine would be a great choice. It helps to have reading material if you are new to Eucharistic Adoration. Most of us have trouble just sitting still… and you can ask the Holy Spirit to inspire your reading.

Ok so no one will look at me weird if i have a Bible and Confessions with me to read. Just to make sure.

You hit a sweet spot with me. St. Augistine and I are close. I chose him as my confirmation saint after I read his confession.

St. Augustine, as you know if you read his confession, struggled with sexual promiscuity and lust. The Bishop approached me before confirmation and asked me about my confirmation saint name which was pinned to my lapel. “Why did you choose the great Doctor of the Church, St. Augustine?” he asked. “Your Excellency, let’s just say that his struggle was my struggle.” I replied. "Was your struggle? he asked. “Yes, your excellency, was - past tense.” was my reply. The Bishop said, “Well, thanks be to God!” and moved on.

Here is me and the bishop hanging out.

Anyway…

I believe that St. Augustine and my Holy Mother Mary have interceeded for me in many tremendous ways.

So guess what I’m gonna say about reading The Confessions of St. Augustine while at adoration… 😃

Nope. And in Perpetual Adoration Chapels, they always provide spiritual reading material as a matter of course. I will pray that you have a positive experience! :angel1:

My confirmation saint was Saint Patrick … im sure you can guess why. Thank you for sharing the details of oyur confirmations name. Besides The City of GOd (which i plan on reading next) do recomend any other Saint Augustine books for me.

Grass Cutter, my churhc only has it ofr two hours on Saturday and on the first friday of each month for 23 hours. I plan on attending a many as i can because the way you describes them it sounds great.

Tim,you said you chose Saint Augustine because he struggled with lust, well i have a question. Sometime when i see a pretty girl certainnot so religous thoughts pop up in my head i try to get rid of them as fast as i can. If i stop paying attention to these thoughts will they stop coming eventually and then i can see these people for who they really arenot just there looks.

I confess that I got through about one fifth of the abridged version of City of God and couldn’t do it. I think I switched to the Autobiography of Thomas Merton, “The Seven Story Mountain” instead. I don’t know any other works by St. Augustine.

Seriously, don’t forget to pray. And when you pray, don’t forget to take some time int he presence of Jesus to just be still and listen. You don’t have to kneel if it makes you uncomfortable or assume some other pious posture, or breathe certain ways or anything like that. Just sit comfortably and like Samuel in the temple, whisper to Jesus and say, “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.”

Try to just be still and listen. Don’t fight it and don’t try to force yourself. Sometimes I have to say it several times and can only stay still and quiet, listening, for a few moments each time. And God doesn’t always speak at that time. Sometimes a few days will go by and I’ll be like, “Ah…!!!” as I’m in the shower or driving my car. 🙂

It is important to listen. We forget to do that.

Let me ask you if there will be a benediction at the end of adoration? Eucharistic Benediction is one of my favorite things to go to. If there is a Benediction at the end, try to be there. Singing the hymns and the blessing and incense - the whole thing is awesome.

Now I want to go to adoration tonight.

/i dont know if there will be a Benediction and what usually happens during one.

This is such a special time for me as it is one of the strongest pulls to my becoming Catholic!

When I first came to Adoration (as a Protestant) I was flooded with the warmth all through me as if oil was covering me inside. I just sat and adored Him. I just knew He had to be there it was unbelievable. It made me wonder…why aren’t more people here??? Don’t they feel what I feel…this is so amazing?!!

As time passed, I didn’t always feel this same flooding of oil but always, always a deep peace as the hour concluded. Often at first I would be “antsy” just sitting, but that is what we are so use to “in the world”…business. But God asks us to “Be still and know that I am God”. So after being still, I listen more. I do make petitions for many, but often the Lord reminds me to just “be still” and “rest”. I think it is because He knows my petitions and wants to minister to all I have carried around that needs “unloaded”. So be aware that in the quiet, silence He will speak to you in ways only He can. It takes time, but trust me, He will. Just ask Him…Lord speak to me, show me what it is You are saying to me. In your mind will flood thoughts. His Spirit only speaks in peace, conviction, but never condemnation. He will guide you in faith, love and hope always. So, please just sit. Either bow your head or look directly at the Lord in the monstrance. Then as He speaks you will know if you should read something you brought or got at the parish (they usually put out devotionals) I let the Holy Spirit lead me. Each time is different. Sometimes I come in with a heavy burden and spend at least 10 minutes in tears letting everything go…sometimes not. It is always good to bring Kleenex and spiritual readings.
Also, picture yourself running up to the Lord and putting your head on his lap and unloading…it is so precious how He waits with joy for us to come to Him!!!

God richly bless your time with the Lord,
mlz

Oh, yes. It is normal. It is as if your soul knows how much it needs the Lord. His presence is so wonderful. He loves us more than anyone we will ever know on earth. It is an “unloading” of ourselves to Him so He can fill us. Don’t fight it…let Him in and tell Him that you love Him and need Him.

Our pastor told us about a dear saint before he died praying “I can’t, You must, I’m yours, Show me the way.” These words are typical of my hearts cry in prayer to our Lord. He hears yours the same I’m sure.

My prayers for you and relish this blessed time, don’t be afraid to cry there.

Eucharistic Adoration is your time with God. Everything everyone said is all good. Sometimes, I just sit with him. I wouldn’t call it meditating necessarily, more like sitting looking at a friend and just enjoying the silence together.

Other times, I do various prayers, read spiritual books and Scripture. It truly is your time with God.

God bless,
Bryan
