Salvation is NOT belief plus nothing. THis cannot be found anywhere in the scriptures. James Chapter two does an excellent job of expalining this. FInd me ONE verse with the exact words “Faith alone” Just one. If salvation by faith alone is so important, the phrase must be in the Scriptures somewhere.
James 2 seem to be the biggest obstacle in understanding, so since you won’t concede that perhaps you are missing the point of James 2, let’s look at your interpretation in the light of all other scripture that says “belief” plus nothing:
Mark 16:16
Whoever
believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever
does not believe will be condemned.
Luke 8:12
Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not
believe and be saved.

And because of his words many more became
believers.

John 8:24
I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not
believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins."
John 11:25

believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may
believe that you have sent me.”
John 20:31
But these are written that you may
believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
