I think one major error the Protestant churches have made collectively is this “ambush evangelism,” whereby they approach even the slightest of acquaintances and assault them with the “are you saved” pop quiz.

Clearly you can see by now what I think of modern evangelism. At it’s best, it captures a few desperates who will most likely revert to their old lifestyles for lack of real commitment and/or proper discipleship. What’s more, these people will be twice as hard to convert the second time around. Now they’ve been burned by religion and they’re all the wiser.

.
Actually it is the prostelatizing that we see from Protestestant (Baptists, Pentacostals especially, and let’s not forget the JWs and Mormons).

Fr. Stravinskas did a nice job contrasting the methods of Evangelism (which includes prayer, and living by example) and prostelatizing - trying to drive you to submission and overwhelm you with “facts”.

Hi Mrs . Of course its the Holy Spirit that does the converting, not me, I,m only a vessel the Lord is using to bring the Good news to the lost. Faith comes by hearing. It,s Gods plan for He has no other, and it will work. 👍 God Bless

Hi deb, we dont need to go and knock on doors. There are our own family members, friends ,coworkers, ect. Jesus commanded us to go and preach the good news. Thats our call. Anything else is simply an excuse. Yes we are to live by example and that example is to follow what the Lord did. His Food was gathering in lost souls. If we continue to wait and just live by example then we will see lost souls perish. God Bless
Hello SW,

After having read through all these posts, I am finding myself very confused as to what your methods of evangilizing are. Myabe I am just dense. Can you give us a real life example of a time when you witnessed to someone? It would clear up my confusion.

Okay, SW, then let me rephrase. How many souls have you “harvested” successfully?

When I was a young Protestant, I would have agreed one hundred percent with your point of view, but even before I converted I began to understand that thrusting the Gospel down the throat of someone who is not ready is like aborting that soul, preventing it from ever coming to fruition. It’s a great way to make sure a person never sees the gates of Heaven.

Hi Sunfire. In Honesty I,m not counting, what really matters is that people are given the oppertunity to hear the Good news. Its through the Law that people come to the realization that they need a Savior. Its only after someone has admitted that they are a sinner and that they need a savior do I present the Gospel message. People do not want to go to hell. If they are proud and not humble they are not ready for Gods grace and I let them walk away , like Christ did with the rich man. Its simple ,its effective, bibllical, and its the way Jesus ministered to the lost. This is not forcing the gospel down anybodys throat. God Bless

I agree, Jesus did not use flamethrowers. I get to use mine during snowstorms but I usually end up with a problem of where to put the ashes? 😃 Anyways, Jesus was gentle but firm in His witnessing. Its critical to be the same when witnessing. 😉 God Bless P/S I do type with one finger.Where is that aprostifee key? 😃

The punctuation mark that you are looking for is on the bottom of the quotation mark key. Look at the letter L and go two keys to the right.

Was that a joke or do you really get to use a flamethrower to clear snow (or maybe that’s have to use a flamethrower to clear snow)?

You can dispose the ashes by placing them on the faces of repentant sinners. We do this with ashes around spring every year in Catholic Churches on a day we call “Ash Wednesday”. Everyone is welcome to join us next year!🙂

Since this thread on evangelization continues, I thought I’d mentioned the book Springtime of the New Evangelization by Pope John Paul II I just started flipping through it and I want to read more. The Pope writes:
Evangelism is the Church’s effort to proclaim to everyone that God loves them, that he has given himself for them in Christ Jesus , and that he invites them to an unending life of happiness. Once this Gospel has been accepted as the “good news,” it demands to be shared.

So if we aren’t evangelizing, we need to be.

I absolutely agree with the Holy Father. And let’s take notice that his idea of evangelizing is sharing the good news, *not *working his way through the Decalogue. Seems to be a big discrepancy between those two, if you ask me.

Thank you. Did it surprise you to read that you and Pope agree? I think you’d really like reading his writing on evangelization and the Christian life.

If I am growing in my faith, it is due in large part to the writings of Pope John Paul II and his witness to the Gospel through his life devoted to Christ. The most effective evangelists for me have been those whom our Catholic Church calls “Saints”. They witnessed in word and deed the wonderful love of God. They offer me hope that God wants to grow beautiful things in the garden of my soul.

Hi Garden,Maybe I,ll do just that. I,ll look for it next time I,m at the christian bookstore. 👍 God BlessP/s It really didnt surprise me. I would expect that John Paul would follow in the footsteps of Christ.

Hey SPOKEN,

you never answered my question from post #79. I think it might clear up some confusion:

If you wouldn’t mind…could you give us your exact definition of evangelization? Seems maybe we’re all looking at evangelization from different view points.
