Would you consider the simple words of the universal Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition, as being the authority regarding Genesis 1: 26-27 and following? Suggestion is to stat with paragraphs 355-421 and 1730-1732.It’s distressing when a Pope’s words can’t be accepted at face value. And considering Saint John Paul 2 had one of the finest minds God ever gave a human being, the idea that commentators need to tell him what he meant to say is disturbing.
Fr Becker is a creationist.
Scott Hahn is brilliant and inspired, but he’s not a scientist, and doesn’t pretend to be.
Your paragraph about Darwin is a gross oversimplification.
Belloc likewise is not a scientist, he lived in a generation prior to John Paul 2, so while I love Belloc, I’ll accept John Paul’s words at face value.
Is this really that difficult? Reminds me of the attempt to redefine marriage, where simple words are twisted and overthought…
Or would you be interested in Pope Pius XII, Humani Generis?
For general information. Writings of St. John Paul II are listed on pages 732 and following in the universal Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition. The Catechism’s Index of Citations begins on page 689.
