I don’t think that the issue is as complicated as some think. Many pastors have rerouted their charitable donations to diocesan organizations. There is no reason why individuals cannot do the same thing. I believe that we should have human development as a concern and a traget for our generosity. But we can support human development through direct giving to those organizations that are consistent with the faith. It does not have to be through a large organization that serves as a distributer. That’s only one way of giving.

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

My husband and I did not give a dime to the CCHD collection. After reading the Bellarmine Veritas Ministry – bellarmineveritasministry.org/ – we saw that the Bishops are not guilty of making a mistake but were in up to their elbows and very aware of what the organizations they gave our money to were up to. There is a corruption in the CCHD organzation that like cancer, needs to be cut out. I would suggest that in the future, the CCHD should send a statement listing all the organizations that they support financially to every Catholic in their diocese if they want us to continue to contribute. And the statement should be well in advance of the collection so that we have time to investigate those groups. Giving anything to anyone connected to Planned Parenthood or Acorn is not simply a mistake.

Give to God what is God’s, give to Caesar what is Caesar; if Caesar was an abortionist would we still be required to contribute to him?

No money from us until we cut out the cancer.

BTW if the Bishops are looking for worthy causes to contribute our hard earned money to try giving it to the retired nuns who taught the correct teachings of the Church all their lives and are now penniless.

The CCHD has never interested me that much. From the very beginning of my exposure to CCHD, I didn’t know where the money was going, and I still don’t.

The money always goes out of our diocese and is spent someplace else on who-knows-what. It’s always been too vague for me.

Even the CSA money in our diocese is spent irresponsibly. A recent bishop used to “tithe” the money and give the tithe to the Salvation Army or something like that. What’'s going on? If I wanted to donate to SA, I will give my money there directly (and I have).

I sent $200 to the local rescue mission and another $20 to a food pantry last week. Then, I was getting heckled by an SA bell ringer for a mite that I dropped in the bucket. So much for the Christmas spirit.
