Paul,
Great to see you again my friend. 👍 Glad to be here.

Best,
Lowell

Hi Lowell,

It is a small world after all! If I am not mistaken a served a couple of stints in your city on my mission in 2000-01. When I attended the Catholic service for Ash Wednesday, I think I saw you but don’t recall if we ever formally met. I’ll I heard about you was that you had used to be an Elder’s Quorum President and had been swayed by literature critical of the LDS church. If you are who I think, I would be interested in hearing more about your story.

sincerely,
fool

fool,

I remember that Ash Wednesday. 🙂 I believe I introduced myself to you and your companion.

I no longer live in Shawnee, but still am living in Oklahoma. I left Mormonism for more than simply reading anti-Mormon literature. I left Mormonism to find the truth, which I found in the Catholic Church.

Glad to meet you again. Tell me, what brings you to a Catholic forum?

Sincerely,
Lowell Johnson

Lowell,

Thanks for jogging my memory :). Now that you mention it, I do remember shaking hands. I was the fat, shy missionary.

I didn’t mean to trivialize the reasons behind your departure from the LDS church. That is something I know very little about. I can’t remember who it was that told me about you (maybe Billy C.?), but he attributed your leaving the LDS church at least in part to anti-literature, although indicating that you are a very bright person. Good to hear from you, it brings back memories. I got along well with Billy, because he was into apologetics at the time, and I had dabbled a little before my mission.

I enjoy participating in on the Catholic boards because I learn a lot in my own search for truth. I am interested in early Christian history and it is good to get Catholic perspective on it. Most of my posts have an informative, apologetic slant to them, mainly because discussing mormon problems seems to be what people are most interested in here. A close second would be critiquing whether LDS views on the apostasy have any merit. I am not solely interested in apologetics, I also like to engage in comparative religion. Catholic Answers seems to be well moderated and I enjoy interaction with all the cordial, devout posters.

being in north Texas I have to ask what part of OK ?

fool,

Billy C. is a good man. He was Mayor of Seminole last I heard. I have not spoke to him for some time. I agree with your take on apologetics. I am most interested in the early Church. I still enjoy studying Mormon history. I think that LeGrand Richards made a good point in A Marvelous Work And Wonder when he discussed the observation that it all falls with either the Mormon church or the Catholic Church. My money is on the latter (and I don’t mean Latter-Day Saints). 😉

LOL!

Looks like our Sooners are having a down year, they usually beat Texas every year. Good times when OU beat the Seminoles for the championship, it was the one time we were officially allowed to watch T.V. on my mission (other than general conference and church videos.)

I look forward to getting your take on the various topics as they come up, if you have the time, of course.

I have to admit, Sunday after the Texas win I had to run an errand in OKC (about a 2 hour drive). I wore my UT shirt and stopped in Norman at the wal-mart on the way back to get a coke. guilty pleasure but it’s been awhile for us orangebloods. 😃
