All the research I’ve seen or heard of regarding brain development and hormonal changes in the womb have produced mixed results. The search for a gay gene, as the search for a gambling gene, is also dubious. Most psychologists do not believe same-sex attraction is a choice any more than opposite-sex attraction is. But what exactly the interplay is between biological and environmental causes remains controversial.
And I’d be happy to point out the absurdity of this psychiatrists opinion. Sexual orientation is not as cut and dry as homosexual or heterosexual. The gender of the victims does not grant licence to draw unsubstantiated conclusions on the sexual orientation of the perpetrator. Just because the victim was of the same sex as the perpetrator and reached puberty doesn’t mean the perpetrator was a homosexual. They could just as easily be bisexual or even heterosexual. This psychiatrist has no scientific foundation for such a statement unless he’s been conducting FMRI scans on the perpetrators. Additionally, the vast majority of homosexuals do not attempt to seduce minors. These priests could have solicited sex from adults so why did they choose minors? It suggests that these were crimes of opportunity rather than sexual preference.
Well, let’s continue considering this, shall we? It is thought that many of the offending priests were sexually ‘confused’. OK, let’s say they were confused. How come, out of their “confusion” they chose same sex victims 81% of the time? This discounts the fact that many offenders chose solely same-sex victims. Every time. Confusion would imply randomness, which we clearly do not see here. Offending male priests, having a choice between male and female victims, chose males in 81% of their victims. 81% is just a bit more than than a mere statistical trend, wouldn’t you say?
Because the media calls it pedophelia which is gender neutral; BUT it isn’t pedophelia it is hebephelia which is the attraction to post pubescent males.It is NEVER referred to as homosexual predation in the media-but always child abuse-85 per cent of the victims are post pubescent boys and young men.

Hebephelia is not a “homosexual disorder.” The most comprehensive study on the gender preference of pedophiles and hebephiles, Jenny et al., found that only 0.7% of perpetrators prefer their victims to be of the same gender while the majority had no gender preference at all. In fact, all of the scientific literature on the subject demonstrates that the majority have no gender preference and, more often than not, child molestation is a crime of opportunity. The fact that the majority of victims are boys says nothing about the gender preference of the perpetrator priests because the majority of hebephiles give no thought to gender. A priest has more access to boys than to girls. Its as simple as that.

Maybe not. Could be they aren’t hebepheliacs at all, just plain ordinary homosexuals. A homosexual priest would have a lot more access to post-pubescent boys (and a lot more ability to persuade them) that he would to adult men. His success rate with adult heterosexual men would be zero plus a black eye.

Your assessment depends entirely on equal access to boys and girls but many, if not most, of these crimes were committed in gender segregated schools and orphanages. If these priests had the same quantity of interaction with girls as they did with boys then the statisicts would probably be much closer together but since most hebephiles have no gender preference and many if not most of the hebephile priests spent most of their time in gender segregated environments it is no surprise that most of the victims were boys.

Of course you are right. As for the '50s, I have a '50s education of the Encyclopedia Americana, and the article on homxsexuality has as much reliable knowledge as we no possess. It says something telling, though, that the rejection of homsexuality was largely a matter of convention. What has happened is that the convention has radically changed. That change was driven by the Sexual Revolution, not new scientific knowledge.
