Don’t even get me started.

Obama Explains Why He Attended A Ballgame Just Hours After The Brussels Attacks

I’m beginning to think that, with the current disarray in the GOP, Obama isn’t worried at all about looking foolish.
What exactly was Obama supposed to do? The attack had occurred hours earlier on another continent. Obama had already made a statement condemning the attack and pledging full US support for and cooperation with Belgium. There were no ongoing military efforts which called for presidential attention at that time.

It’s amazing to me how social and political factions, on both the right and the left, will view everything through a certain lens which automatically interprets every event for them in a certain way.

Did you have a big problem when George W Bush remained at an elementary school reading “My Pet Goat” after learning that the United States was under a massive attack on Sept. 11, 2001?

Yes, I know about The Pet Goat; however, I’m not sure if I can dignify that comparison with a reply.

That’s ok, I’ll just have to live without that “dignification”. 🤷

I noticed you didn’t answer my first question.

It is great to see the memorial in Brussels.

People are chanting “love, love, love”.

The streets are full and no one in hiding out of fear.

I pray that violence is answered with love- not with intolerance and bigotry as some would have it.
How does one answer violence with love?

It’s good to know you don’t fault bush for that and weren’t critical of him for it…

George Bush was in a room full of children reading them a book when he was told about the massacre. His concern was not to upset the children.

Obama went to the game hours after hearing of Brussels massacre.

(Not that I fault Obama with going to the game).

Yes, I was criticizing him for it. Maybe I’m wrong for that. If you want, ignore that comparison.

I’m still waiting for someone to answer my first question.

Yes, that is a distinction.

Some might argue that addressing an ongoing massive attack would justify upsetting the children. My impression is that Bush just froze up, and I probably should not fault him for that since in his position I might have done the same thing.

Thank you for your response.

Bush spent about 10 minutes finishing up the story to the children. I do not fault him for taking a few minutes to finish something he’d already started.

I don’t think it was wrong of Obama to go to the already-planned baseball game. I do think he should have been more restrained in his demeanor.

Absolutely. And that ties back to my original point (well okay, maybe speculation rather than point): perhaps he would be more concerned about possible backlash from us Republicans if our party wasn’t falling apart! 😊

Actually I don’t fault Obama for his reaction at all. He was in the middle of a diplomatic visit that while I don’t agree with him and his stance on Cuba, it’s kinda his job. And no offense to Brussels but this is not a huge terrorist attack anyway. France was a worse attack and more high profile than this one. Most people could even tell you what country Brussels is in. If France, San Bernardino or the countless beheadings and killing babies in front of thier mothers was not going to slap the president awake why would a Brussels attack?
I’m surprised he addressed it at all.
I got a good laugh at all the newsies who wondered if this would change obama’s policies…
Ha!

There is a statement to be pitied. For those for whom it is true, I would say that says a lot more against such people. It is the seat of the EU. I would hope Americans would be more internationally aware than what this statement would indicate.

Americans can be pretty ignorant of anything that happens outside of America.

It’s sad but true.

I thought the attack was significant. It is a big airport with people making connecting flights all over the world. It would be no different than someone attacking an airport in Chicago, Miami or Atlanta or Denver. I would hate to think anyone would call insignificant an attack on one of these airports. Two bombs, 10 fatalities and many injured not to mention the damage done to the airport. These people were going about their daily lives and had every right to expect to feel safe.

There is a sliding scale of significance to American presidents though. An attack in Brussels or say, South Africa is not as significant as two planes flying into buildings in New York. For Americans San Bernardino should be more significant than Brussels. Paris is more significant as well. I think we could be seeing some fatigue at the news cycle. Attacks are the new norm. And Brussels is a yawner for the average American.

I have to wonder if it was targeted specifically because if it’s anonymity. Since it wasn’t real alert, it might be easier to pull off than say walking into Rome…

I am shocked, and I really mean shocked that Rome or the Vatican have not been hit. What are they doing right? They are probably the highest target…

Wow. The nation is under attack and you think it’s okay for our nation’s leader to pretend it isn’t happening for any length of time because he doesn’t think he can leave a room without frightening children? It was one of those critical times when the strong leadership role of the President is required and instead the response was total chaos from the top down.
