Nothing about it makes sense. Right wing nuts normally go after government cites, left wing nuts normally go after corporate/financial house stuff, Terrorist organizations normally claim credit.

True nutcases go for carnage. The goal is chaos, any philosophy they become attached to is just an excuse for creating it, not the motivation. Unfortunately, this may be something along those lines- somebody who just wanted to blow stuff up and any religious/political affiliation they latched onto was just the excuse they needed.
Relatively low “collateral damage” with a high degree of terror on a holiday = political statement.

Runner Ali Stevenson, cross country coach at U of Mobile, said that an announcement was made to all the runners before the race that bomb drills were being conducted and not to be alarmed.

The video of the guy fleeing from the explosion with his pant leg blown off is fairly damning. One post on the Alex Jones site theorizes a raid tomorrow which will yield a patsy with NRA literature and guns. The type of explosive powder is important because if it’s gunpowder, then they have an excuse to tax ammunition until it’s no longer affordable. Sounds plausible.

Sounds like conspiracy mumbo jumbo to me.

No, it isn’t plausible in a lot of different ways, but the most obvious is that it wasn’t modern smokeless powder but black powder that was used. The few remaining people who use black powder are usually re-enactors of some kind (and there is a niche hunting season in Pennsylvania for black powder hunters).

hmmm, the person of interest is getting kicked out of the USA.

An expert on terrorism says the Saudi national who was the original “person of interest” in connection with Monday’s Boston Marathon bombing is going to be deported from the U.S. next week.
The foreign student from Revere, Mass., is identified as 20-year-old Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi.
“I just learned from my own sources that he is now going to be deported on national security grounds next Tuesday, which is very unusual,” Steve Emerson of the Investigative Project on Terrorism told Sean Hannity of Fox News Wednesday night.
The Reuters news agency reported President Barack Obama met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal on Wednesday, noting “the meeting was not on Obama’s public schedule.”
After that meeting was mentioned, Emerson told Hannity, “That’s very interesting because this is the way things are done with Saudi Arabia. You don’t arrest their citizens. You deport them, because they don’t want them to be embarrassed and that’s the way we appease them.”

Sounds like conspiracy mumbo jumbo to me.
Hurling “conspiracy theory” epithets is the perfect way to keep narrow minds closed. It’s especially ironic, given the progressive mantra “ask questions, challenge authority.” One would think that attempting to embarrass progressives by exposing their hypocrisy would be effective, but most don’t care. Anything to achieve the ends. Power and influence is more important to them than idealism.

There are Conspiracy theories and I think some conspiracies are out of hand. So it’s up for us to judge.

On the other hand, we were told the single bullet theory on the JFK assassination theory back in the day but after the Zapruder film came out, many Americans and others world wide don’t believe the official theory.

And you see the pictures of Boston, if we didn’t have those photos, I honestly fear what we might told happened there even though I think the one particular theory passed around is a bit of a tall tale.

I think confusion on the Boston story, perhaps between the Fed and the Local officials could be the reason for all that confusion yesterday, how could CNN be actually reporting law officials were telling us a person was arrested, etc.Could be authorities have someone in custody and given the environment of the country, want to side step all of the politics in this.

But new developments probably indicates no one is in custody,

However as mentioned, the first detained person is going to be deported we are told because he is a national security risk, that’s real weird in itself.

Notice how the guy with his pant leg blown off is the only one fleeing at highest speed, with purpose, in a conscientious direction. Everyone else who did not know what happened is stunned. Maybe he was a little late with his drop, too close to time, or the impact of the drop. Could this be the ‘arabic’ guy who was treated at the hospital then released and not a suspect? If he was part of it. Kinda like the Sandy Hook detainee who was placed in the FRONT seat of the police car. We’re just not privy to certain information.

Big news has maximum impact when released on a Friday or just before a holiday so people can talk about it over dinner with friends and loved ones, cling to their couches and comfort food. Changing hearts and minds, one event at a time.

Press conference is cancelled. Anticipation is built. Just stick to the script, people. This is one case where I’d love to be wrong.

Actually lots of people use black powder - special hunting seasons are set aside for people willing to go through the trouble.

Just some of the “modern” black powder rifles:

Somehow reading this thread made me think of the Star Spangled Banner. Not the first verse we all know and sing, but the 3 other verses. Maybe we all need to read verses 2-4, below:
usa-flag-site.org/song-lyrics/star-spangled-banner.shtml

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Obama had an unscheduled meeting with the Saudi Foreign Minister yesterday and to be fair, it is reported to talk about Syria:- Reuters

The Saudi person of interest is reportedly going to be reported. (picture of him reportedly in the hospital, how could they have gotten this picture?? I wonder, though he does not look badly hurt, I do see what looks to be some wrapping on one hand. Other than that, he looks fairly well.) Though he was cleared in regards to this bombing, reportedly being deported nonetheless as a national security threat.

Except it wasn’t a holiday, not one widely recognized by Americans. Heck, I was born here decades ago and I’ve never heard of ‘Patriot’s Day’ until now— and when I heard it associated with Boston I assumed it was some local New England thing having to do with the Football team.

Political statements require more than just damage to send a message. They need to communicate the who, what and most importantly why. That hasn’t been done here.

As to the guy running, I did accident investigation, people do wierd stuff after accidents or being disoriented. Even well trained people will have strange and unpredictable reactions. I’m not suprised one guy in a large crowd exposed to a concussive blast took off running.

They did do bomb drills earlier, which would explain ‘operators or wannabees’ in distinctive clothing as security consultants who may have been hired to particpate or conduct training hanging around to watch the end of the race. After the drills/training are done, why not? Where else would they go? If they were part of a conspiracy, I seriously doubt they would be wearing distinctive matching outfits, but as part of a training team it would make sense.

The suspect of interest may be getting deported because of things found in his apartment. He wasn’t a part of this bombing but they may have found indications he was up to no good.

Anyway it is just weird. It doesn’t appear to be aimed at achieving any political objectives. Unless it’s going to be followed by something else, part of a larger plan. As a single event it just seems more in line with some local who became fascinated with explosives, researched stuff on the net, got tired of just setting them off in the woods and set his personal demons loose on a local event where he was familiar with its procedures.

Here’s a recent case of ‘vandalism’ that I find more troubling in it’s implications:

New York Post Claims.

The extremely bulky backpack…

And the President just happened to have a previously unscheduled meeting with the Saudi Minister yesterday, yeah, right.

No they weren’t. The reports that there had been were wrong. Multiple authorities have confirmed that NO additional devices were found.
I don’t think so. Initially, there was talk of a third, controlled, explosion but there was an official announcement later saying that the only bombs discovered were the two that had exploded.

There’s also something written on that website saying that the whole thing was a setup to frame the gun lobby which, frankly, is ridiculous.
Thanks for correcting me.

Patriots Day commemorates the Battle of Concord and Lexington…you know from Longfellow: “On the 18th of April in '75, hardly a man is now alive who remembers that fateful day and year of the midnight ride of Paul Revere…one if by land, and two if by sea, and I on the opposite shore shall be ready to ride and spread the alarm to every Middlesex County village and farm…” It’s been a holiday in Massachusetts forever. If you didn’t know that, you haven’t been paying attention or your teachers did you a disservice.

Agreed

Hell, I strongly suspect I’d be thinking, “Feet, don’t fail me now!” 🙂

exactly

or even some technicality or expiration of a visa…who knows

I tend to agree…we almost certainly would have heard something from some group by now if there were a political agenda, methinks…but, we certainly don’t know for sure yet.

The wrap on his hand is the IV. You also can’t see his legs or feet. Most injuries were to legs and feet.

I’ve never heard of it either. 🤷

Oh, I’ve heard of the the battle. But unless you live in Massachusetts, Maine or Wisconsin, it isn’t a holiday. The rest of us call it the Anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord.

Thank you for your answer, most injuries may have been to the legs and feet but I believe in regards to this young man, the story was of burns to his arms.

Daily Mail story.

It’s unbelievable how one moment, all of those people were there and in the next frame, so many were not in the picture, I mean it looks a bit like an empty outdoor cafe in ways, compared to the many who were just there. Poor things.

And random speculation trying to make everything a conspiracy is not helpful either. This is not about liberal vs. conservative, this is about finding out what happened and right now it is far too early to say.

It is far too early to think there is some type of conspiracy, and the only people that seem sure of it are the people that are generally anti-government and looking to pin everything bad that happens on some government conspiracy.
