O’Reilly is critical in this not being called a terrorist attack, 2 bombs go off in the span of 15 seconds, BOR has a point in that regard, Fort Hood is workplace violence according to Obama as well and those deceased were denied. Though I don’t agree with Bill O’Reilly, tragedies seem more to be earth quakes and car accidents.

President Kennedy was assassinated, that was a tragedy but overall, it was an assassination. Tragedy would seem to be a bit of a mild way to describe that event. Ditto for Pearl Harbor. Do we think of it as an attack or a tragedy? 911? Do we just call it a great tragedy?

However, I think this soon after the event, I can see why Obama might call it that, “terrorist attack” is a strong term to use. But it might be the proper term to use.

If Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin or John McCain used the term “tragedy” to describe 911, that would seem a bit of a mild way to put it and Obama after all, is the commander in chief, leader of the US in this vein. A high number of people have been maimed along with some deaths, the poor people.
I think for any senior official, you do not want to say, or shouldn’t say what you do not know. At this point we still do not know who did this. Was it foreign terrorism, domestic, was it just a crazy loon who doesn’t like taxes? We just don’t know yet.

And I believe President Obama through Jay Carney has indicated he thinks this could be over yesterday being “tax day.” Just saying.
I don’t see how that is relevant to the point that I was making.

It is beginning to appear that we were a bit lucky, if there can be such a thing in a situation like this. The bombs don’t seem to have been particularly powerful or well made…a small plus in a terrible event.

The President wasn’t politicizing it, he was discussing a possible motive.
Then the others were not politicizing either. Get over it! People have a right to their opinion, glad the thought police are telling us what to think.

By the way, when President Obama openly exploits Sandy Hook and politicizes it, the same Obama who’s mentor is Bill Ayers, bomber and a man that praised Charles Manson, dedicated a book to Sirhan Sirhan and Alinskyite politics, “don’t let a crisis go to waste”, at first, I thought we should not politicize it but if some ride their high horse and okay it for the Prez., now it’s a different ball game.

No, I take that back, I don’t think we should politicize it at this point and I don’t think we should have double standards.

I was wondering how long it would take for this thread to become politicized. 71 posts. This is why I rarely post here anymore. Three people dead, many injured and people start talking about the political ramifications of a tragedy. Sorry Hans, I’m sure you’re a good guy and all, but how cynical has our country become that we jump straight into politics after something like this…
Hang around, in another hundred posts it Will be Bushes fault

let me guess, he kept to himself as well. “Quiet” is what these crazies always are.

A roommate of the man questioned in connection to yesterday’s Boston Marathon bombing described the Saudi national as “a good boy,” incapable of such a monstrous attack.
Investigators early last night converged on a fifth-floor apartment where the potential suspect lives with two roommates.
Mohammed Badawood, 20, described the potential suspect as “quiet and clean” and said he last saw him two days ago. Badawood told The Post he moved into the apartment about five months ago.

For what it’s worth, Westboro Baptist is thrilled over this . Per the Washington Times:

Westboro Baptist Church said that the bombings during the Boston Marathon were sent by God as punishment for same-sex marriage and that members would definitely show up at funerals to protest.

The group posted the message on its Twitter site, with a headline that read, “Thank God for the Boston marathon bombs.”

Don’t worry, Anonymous is going to get back at them.

Naturally…thankfully, they are such a tiny group…and they make me feel really sane.

Being quiet and coming from Saudi Arabia doesn’t automatically make him a terrorist. It’s important not to judge or label people. Let the investigators do their job.

That’s sick. Who are the Westboro Baptist Church? Are they some kind of extremist fringe of the wider Baptist Church?

I don’t know why people here are complaining about posters on this thread making political points. I watched a press conference where one of the Boston officials proclaimed that the President had reached out to them, stressing that it was the President who did the reaching out rather than the city contacting him. What else did she expect from her president?

Very true…we must let the investigation run its course. So far as the Westboro Baptist Church…it is impossible to describe them and be charitable. I will say that I bet every true Baptist is mortified by them claiming that title

By blaming his opponents? Naw, nothing political at all about that…

Please, quit insulting people.
I do not see anything in the statement that it is blaming his opponents. I see him stating a possible motive. Republicans didn’t plant a bomb and everyone knows that. Those that use violence to advance their agenda are everyone’s opponents.

The right is getting to be just as bad as the left. For eight years when George Bush was in office we had to deal with the left taking offense or taking shots at every word that came out of his mouth, because he always had to be wrong. Now the right is doing the same exact thing.

Most of what Obama says and does is wrong in my opinion, but not everything.

Thank you so much for this. It was really getting out of hand, and I was tired of having to defend myself for saying that it should not be politicized.

I have never heard an actual Baptist say anything but the most negative comments about them. Having said that, there is no central authority to say what assembly is Baptist and what assembly is not Baptist (Baptists at large have had ministers as diverse as Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson)

For a little biography on the group’s founder, Fred Phelps, see here (warning, it’s Wikipedia, so use with caution)

Go back and look at any gunman who has shot up a business or school, 90% of the time, what are they? Yep, quiet and they keep to themselves.

I would lean towards it being one of the first two (or a combination thereof) rather than a disgrunteled taxpayer. Traditionally the anti-government types have focused on government buildings, not crowds of people unconnected with a government event or entity. I think the most likely reason that this was done on tax day was just because the marathon happened to fall on it and it was an easy target.

Perhaps the Boston marathon was a back-up plan since Hurricane Sandy canceled the NYC marathon?
