“Oh and another thought. It’s one thing to be compassionate. But it’s also ok to have expectations.”

You said a mouthful! My husband and I have encouraged everyone in the family to help this poor woman. Instead of talking about her behind her back when she leaves, reach out to her. Explain expectations to her. They think that reaching out to her would be a waste of time and that we are wrong to think that we are “better than her.” I know I’ve made better choices in my life, but I do not think that I am a better human being in comparison to anyone. I recently saw my sister-in-law at a funeral and she ignored me. So, I purposely walked up to her and asked her how she and her children are doing this school year. She immediately launched into a story about a fight she had with the father of one of her children (three different fathers of six children and only one marriage out of the three). It was embarrassing to stand there with her as she loudly procIaimed that her child’s father is nothing but a “cash cow” and other explicit words. But I will never give up on being kind to her when I see her. I will always reach out to her and be that example of kindness, even when she makes fun of my kindness. But after eight years, Christmas Day is finally about Christ - my husband and I are excited about attending Mass on Christmas day and starting a new tradition with our children this year!!

**Those two statements give you a very clear answer. Go forward and make new holiday memories, Christmas traditions, and share the love with your growing family.

Your children will remember their parents as kind to those who don’t return the favor and have happy Christmas memories to boot. Win win.**

Everyone in my husband’s family is very afraid of my sister-in-law and the tension on Christmas Day is overwhelming. The entire family mostly sits in silence as she and her husband and six children rule the day with their griping and inappropriate stories. No one wants to tell them anything because they have threatened several family members With what have they threatened them? Is it physical violence or to bless everyone by leaving? who have reached their limited and asked them to “tone it down.” See, this is an important fact to let people next time you ask something of this nature.
Now that my sons are four and three years old, they are so excited about Jesus’s birthday! This would’ve been good to know, too. You are talking babies for all intents and purposes, babies who have minds and mouths like MP3 recorders. We will see their grandparents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day afternoon after my sister-in-law leaves.Very clearly a good idea- and clever, if you don’t mind my saying so. I just pray that my husband’s family will accept our decision to put our children first. OK. Now you’ve lost me. Where’s your resolve now that you’ve made your decision? It just doesn’t matter whether or not they accept your decision. You’ve made it. The end. If they don’t like it, well, you are an adult, as is your husband, and the co-parents of two very small children who have made a decision you consider in their benefit. STAND FIRM THERE!:dts:DO NOT BACK DOWN! Just like our little emotion. Doesn’t matter, we’ve decided, too bad.
