=steved12345;10609084]I am reading this thread with great interest. I am a practicing Catholic. Follow the rules the best I can, and go to confession when I mortally sin in the eyes of the Catholic doctorine.
However, if I was honest with myself, I am struggling with this idea that if I go to confession , my soul is then in a state of grace and I will go to heaven. But then i somehow mortally sin the next day - I am condemned to hell ? (not because I do not love God - but am a human being that stumbles at times).
If you continue to commit a mortal sins then yes, you are human, BUT you are committing that sin because you are rejecting God’s grace. No one is tempted beyond their strength.
“No temptation has overtake you that is not common to man. God is faithful and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape that you man be able to endure it.” 1 Cor. 10:13
God is providing you the grace, especially in the sacrament of Confession, but if you commit a mortal sin you do so because you freely reject God’s grace to avoid that sin. You would still be a slave to the flesh and not to the Spirit.
I do not wish to leave the Catholic religion that I grew up with since I do not beleive a very important part of the Catholic doctorine…,
If you don’t believe that I wouldn’t call myself a “practicing” Catholic.
but I must admit that I believe that “once truly saved by accepting sincerely Jesus into your hearts”, …that you are then eternally saved…
That is a heretical belief not found in scripture or sacred Tradition. You really need to reconsider this belief. It is a man-made tradition.
and thus a will not want to sin again and as a result will practice good works
But it sounds like you "do want’ to sin again.
as a result of your love for Christ and Him saving you - versus following certain doctorine (works) that may be simply too hard for any human to be like 100 percent of the time.
Why would it be hard to refrain from committing a mortal sin?
How many times does Christ have to die on the cross for it to be good enough for all of my sins ?
Once
Are we saying that Jesus dying and rising alone is not enough to cover all of my sins and pay my penalty for my sinfull nature. (sorry this is what I believe - and I am not looking to debate my belief)…
.Jesus has paid the penalty in full but only if you turn to Him and reject the sinful nature that is possible through accepting God’s grace
but am concerned if I am wrong… as I do not want to spend eternity in hell. I truly want to know the will of God and follow it.
You are wrong!. Please consider this scripture from the NIV translation of 1 John 4:6-9
“No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him…He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning…No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God”
If you continue to sin how can you say that you love God? .How can you say you have been born again?
