Moondweller just what is this “faith” you are talking about. How can one chose to serve God without faith? the arcangel Micheal chose to serve God,not to try to be His equal as did the fallen angels.Though St. Paul wrote abundantly he is not the sole source of God’s revealtion.steffenwolf128 all angels have faith it how they chose to serve God.without faith one can’t serve God.

Again, to me righteous means being perfect just as God is perfect. It is why David tells us:

We can act righteously without actually being righteous. God accepts as if we had already become what we are becoming. However we do not achieve it in this life.
But scripture says:

Eph 4:22-24
Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Phil 1:9-11
And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

2 Tim 4:7-8
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

James 5:16
The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects.

1 Peter 3:12
“For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those that do evil.”

1 John 3:7
Little children, let no one deceive you. He who does right is righteous, as he is righteous.

Rev 22:11
He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

Jesus and the Lawyer was discussed thoroughly in previous posts. But if you think men are saved by keeping the Law, then YOU really need to rethink what even basic Christianity is.
…
…
You were wrong in your understanding of Jesus discussion with the lawyer earlier in the thread and you are still wrong. Jesus did not tell the lawyer to keep the Mosaic and Levitical laws and you know it. Why attempt to deflect the truth?

But scripture says:
Do you believe that a person is truly righteous in God’s eyes if he is not perfect? We can act righteous. We can even be called righteous in that we have been regenerated but we are not truly righteous in that we are not perfect.

I think we are separated primarily by semantics. I also don’t think God really expects us to understand perfectly in order to be saved.

I have devoted myself to focusing the greatest amount of my energy discussing the “impute” issue, especially logizomai, because it is truly the heart of the Protestant Catholic dispute and it is undeniable where the evidence points to. Protestantism will be gone in our lifetime because of this evidence no Protestant scholars will continue to defend the Protestant position.

If the Catholic side would shift its focus onto this critical issue then Protestantism (ie the scholars and pastors) will be gone in 5-10 years.
I hope you continue to devote all of your energy, and all of your time toward the goal of the total annihilation of Protestantism.

Christ dealt with the lawyer right where he was at. He questioned Jesus in order to put Him to the test, according to the Law. The parable of the good Samaritan graphically demonstrated to the lawyer that he did not live up to the requirements of the Law, nor could he be justified by it. Eternal life comes through faith in Christ alone.

I am surprised you would even feed into this, sandy. Our Lord was clear that we were to let the wheat and the tares to grow together until the harvest.:dts:

Maybe Pax is right, and you totally missed the point of the whole parable. Jesus did not mislead the lawyer, just because the lawyer was trying to mislead Him. Salvation is, indeed, found in the keeping of the commandments. This is because love is the fulfillment of the law. Jesus is love, and Jesus is the fulfilment of the law. If we have died with Him in a death like His, then we will live with Him in a life like His. If we are “in Christ” we will be poured out as a love offering for others. Such a life brings salvation not only to ourselves, but to others. Jesus never askes us to do something that it is not possible to do.

The whole parable of the good samaritan is about perfect love.

I found it!!! I found it!!! oh wait, it says NOT by faith alone… guess I’ll keep looking… James 2,24 Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith alone?
If I may throw my two cents in…I, being a Protestant, have struggled with sola fide for a long time, and the answer I have received from many, many learned Protestants is the* Bible as a whole* teaches faith alone. I agree that nowhere in the Bible can you find the words “faith alone” in that order, and thus justify sola fide. But from what I have been told, and taught, one must take the Bible as a whole to understand the doctrine.

Total annihilation of Protestantism? Wow…I did not know our doctines were such a curse on the earth. After all, the millions who have found Christ as Savior through Protestant teaching must also be destroyed, because they are continuing to spread this horrible curse. I thought one, being Catholic or non-Catholic should send all of his/her time and energy serving Christ, not destroying a belief system you disagree with. I guess after you get done the Protestant theology, you will move on to Muslims, Hindus, etc…right?

You are new to the thread, so you don’t realize that sandusky is being facetious. It is true that protestantism continues to spread heresy, but that does not mean the adherants are heretics, any more than Catholic apostates “begat more apostates” as has been suggested. I agree with you, that we should all be spending our time and energy serving Christ, rather than “annihilating” one another. The gates of hell will not prevail against Christ’s church, and it is not our part to determine who is, and who is not, a member of it. That belongs to the Head, who is Christ.

The perfection of God is unique to God. The perfection of angels is that of angels, and the perfection of man is that which is in keeping with man’s nature as created in the image and likeness of God. We can be perfected by God’s grace, but we can never approach the perfection of God. Instead, we can be perfect as the Father is perfect. I believe scripture and the promises and hope given to us by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

I and most others are a work in progress. The perfection called for is possible in this life. Righteousness does not equate to absolute perfection, and I see no reason by way of scripture or the constant teaching of Christianity to think otherwise.

Matthew 5:48
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
It is not impossible for us to love our enemies as much as we love our good neighbour or to pray for those who persecute us. Nor is it impossible for us to obey the will of God in all things. And so it is not impossible for us to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect. Unless we do reach this form of perfection, we cannot be saved. Heaven holds no place for those who are unmerciful and cannot love unconditionally as our heavenly Father does. (Mt 5, 43-48; Luke 6, 36)

“He was made man that we might be made God.”
Athanasius (A.D. 318)

Only by Faith and Christ’s righteousness.
Well, I am glad we can agree about something! God provides the grace and ability for us to follow His commandments. It is our part to exercise our faith, and to cooperate with the grace. We must allow Him to work in us the will and doing of God’s pleasure.

Only by Faith and Christ’s righteousness.
Is that so? :coffeeread:

If it is only by faith and the imputation of Christ’s righteousness that we are saved, then there is no reason for our Lord to command us to love our enemies and to do good to those who hate us in order to be saved. The disciples believed in our Lord and Saviour, but he demanded mercy of them. Unless they chose to become merciful as our heavenly Father is merciful, with the help of of God’s grace, they could never hope to be righteous before God. (Luke 6, 27-36)

" ‘To declare his righteousness.’ What is declaring of righteousness? Like the declaring of His riches, not only for Him to be rich Himself, but also to make others rich, or of life, not only that He is Himself living, but also that He makes the dead to live; and of His power, not only that He is Himself powerful, but also that He makes the feeble powerful. So also is the declaring of His righteousness not only that He is Himself righteous, but that He doth also make them that are filled with putrefying sores ‘asapentas’ of sin suddenly righteous."
John Chrysostom (A.D. 391)
