I agree!i wouldn’t be so fast to judge people who go through this process to gain legitimacy in a country. yes, its illegal and its a crime. but i’ve known good people who resorted to this just to find greener pastures. people in poorer nations are frustrated at their situation that they work hard and do everything they can to try and improve their lives, but somehow they can’t climb out of the financial hole they’re in. as frustration gives way to desperation, some people resort to this just for the opportunity to better their lives
i’m not justifying the criminal act they did, just don’t quickly say they’re bad people because they did this.
This doesn’t sound quite right. Whenever a marriage is entered into, even for reasons such as these, and then civilly dissolved, an declaration of nullity is needed, even if it is simply a summary declaration. It should be further stated I think a sin of deception, especially if this first marriage was in the Church, would have to be confessed, with remorse, before a new sacramental marriage would be permitted.I spoke to a Priest not long ago about this type of marriage & he said a annulment is not needed. Divorce papers would need to be shown if 1 were to get married in the church.
You got the impression that I was talking about me.SANx, that is great that the priest said you could get married in the church. Make sure you see that priest when you decide to get married again because somehow I feel he could be wrong about what he said to you. I am only guessing that he has wrong information.
I remember you saying a gal married you so she could become a u.s. citizen but it didn’t work out so she went back to her country.
It had nothing to do with the church, which is sometihng that makes it not valid in the 1st place. This doesn’t sound quite right. Suffice to say, I cannot see the church approving of mockery of the sacrament of marriage for the purpose of breaking immigration law.
Something doesn’t smell right here
God bless

It would not appear to be a vaild marriage as there was no intent to be man and wife. Thanks for the feedback. The entire story isn’t know for everyone to begin to judge him and his character. I was just curious of what the validity of the marriage is? I mean what is it in God’s eyes? I’m going to confession this Friday and will speak to a priest about it. I basically told him that I was saddened bc he kept this from me and that we should just be friends. I wouldn’t ever date someone who was married, so that wasn’t the question.
In the end I want to do what God wants but I feel that I’m getting mixed signals from God.
Thanks for the feedback but like choy was saying don’t be so quick to judge. He comes from one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere and I guess he felt this was the only way to make a better life for himself. It does not excuse it, it is wrong, I’m not saying it isn’t.
No he wouldnt-even if they lived in a community property state it woud be simple to protect ant assets she bought into the marriage. In the eyes of the Government, as your legal spouse he would be entitled to 50% of everything you own !
You’d be better off giving it to the Charity of your choice.
.
Where does it state that someone who had a civil marriage outside the church needs to do something other than divorce to get married in the church? I think that would help us all know for sure.In the eyes of the Church, it would not be a valid marriage. But as someone said, you would still need to go through the Nullification process.

Being an accomplice in breaking the law is not good.
Lying during a Sacrament (of Marriage) is a Sacrilege.
If the two parties are baptized Protestants than their civil marriage is a sacramental marriage. Thus it would need a “full anulment.”the Church would recognize civil marriages as valid but not sacramental and would still require to go through the annulment process of the Church to find out if the marriage is indeed null and void from the beginning.
thanks for the save. i should have clarified at the beginning that i am talking about non-Catholic weddingsIf the two parties are baptized Protestants than their civil marriage is a sacramental marriage. Thus it would need a “full anulment.”
If one of the parties is a Catholic and did not have their bishop’s permission to marry civilly then their marriage is null and void. In that case there is no anulment process. There’s simply a mere formality of notifying the chancery that the first attempted marriage did not meet canonical form.
That is true of convalidation only in the species of radical sanation although not always. See canon 1161. The simple convalidation of canons 1156-1160 does not have retroactive effect.to add:
that is why those who convert to Catholicism who are married do not get married again, but instead have their marriage convalidated, meaning making the marriage sacramental.
also convalidation brings the effects of the Sacraments to the original point of marriage, not on the day of convalidation. because convalidation recognizes the marraige as valid to begin with, but through convalidation brings that valid marriage into the Church, thus making it sacramental
People are being objective, not judgmental. It is objective to state that he’s using legal loopholes to enter the country and taking advantage of not one, but two women to do so. One woman to enter the country, and another to have potential companionship with. There are legal methods for him to enter the USA (student visa) but he chose this one. That, and the fact that he flirted with you while technically being married, says something about his character.Wow some people are really quick to throw the first stone and judge him.
