If you read the editor’s note, you will know.
No.
A story that requires an introduction to be read correctly is at best an example of poor journalism.
Assuming that the reader knows how to read correctly is not an unwarranted assumption.

If you ask someone with two apples how many apples they have and they say “Two,” and the next day you give them another apple you don’t get to call them a liar for saying they had two apples yesterday.
Nobody “asked” anybody anything. At least from NBC on this. They just “reported” what they did not know. But even the other fake news outfits got it right (on this point).

None of the excuses supporting the NBC fake news network are working.

It was propaganda.

They reported a fact and then updated readers when that factual reporting was no longer accurate. If that’s fake news then Karl Rove was right when he said Republicans aren’t part of the reality-based community.

They reported a fact and then updated . . .
They reported fiction and then updated . . .

It was never accurate.

And they did not do their due diligence fact checking.

Even the other fake news networks did NOT fall into these “facts”. (They were too bust criticizing President Trump for BEING with the troops. While NBC was criticizing President Trump for NOT being with the troops.)

Fake news from NBC.

Cathoholic, look. We have a free press.

Some writers, talking heads, whatever, will present news stories about the president that you don’t like. Some will put out stories that I don’t like. That’s how it goes.

Consider the alternative. Really, we’re better off like this.

The NBC story was factually true, and was corrected to remain factually true.

Now, you may feel that it was an unfair presentation of an unimportant fact, and unduly emphasized something that wasn’t worth emphasizing. And, you know, you might be right. Or wrong. Who knows.

But (in my opinion, of course) this is not the major issue you seem to think it is.

Inisfallen, look. We have a free press.

Some writers, talking heads, whatever, will present phony unfact-checked “news” stories about the president that you like. Even when all the other news outfits seem to be able to ascertain that Trump is not “away” from the troops.

Some will put out stories that I don’t like. They are free to propagate fake news I suppose. But I am just as free to criticize it. That’s how it goes.

Yet many who might agree with you, just keep posting here on this thread.

Look. I don’t think this is a big deal either, except that it keeps occurring. It is the pattern.

And “attack Trump at any and all ‘stories’” is merely fake news de jour.

And if people are continually made aware about the fake news machine, fake news will continue to be more and more irrelevant.

People will realize they have to scrounge for news and even then, filter the propaganda.

Or the media can just start reporting news stories.

But if they don’t they will further their own irrelevance.

And that descending into irrelevance is the choice of the media. Not people who call them out on it.

Which day happened first, December 25, 2018 or December 26, 2018?
I will let you ask CNN, USA Today, etc. who did NOT present this fake “news” story.

Let me know what they tell you please.

Neither appear in the story.
?
Let me know what they tell you please.
I see where your confusion is coming from. The only way to continue believing the NBC story was inaccurate at the time of publication is to believe that the events of 26 December happened before the events of 25 December. For the record 25 December comes before 26 December. That should clear up your misconceptions.

The fact of the matter is that they published a story they had no business publishing.
They later had to issue an addendum to try to explain their particular viewpoint.

Were the story truthful, no addendum would be necessary.

Opinion, but fine.
They later had to issue an addendum to try to explain their particular viewpoint.
This is standard journalistic practice and it’s extremely weird to me that people are up in arms over it.
Were the story truthful, no addendum would be necessary.
I have found it disturbing that newspapers report a different date each day. Why don’t they just publish the correct date the first time?

So CNN etc. did no reporting on Dec. 25th? Just NBC?

The 25th is irrelevant when NBC reports fake news but others report the opposite.

Just admit it.

NBC’s “reporting” was slipshod "journalism, and with the pattern, they don’t want to fact-check too hard before printing an anti-Trump story. (It might hurt the narrative)

This is fake news by NBC. It is propaganda.

And when they were called out on it, they issued their correction.

Many people are sick of news being substituted by phony anti-Trump rage. Every. Single. Day.

It is utter non-sense.

We’ve seen Trump get dirt for days about his handshake, scoops of ice cream, the way he feeds fish, etc.

One fake news person on national tv was ignorant and trying to pass off that Congress has term-limits just to correct Trump. It was just quite the escapade.

This type of thing is not “news”. It is propaganda.

There are basically two events relevant to this discussion:
  1. When did NBC publish their story?
  2. When did Trump leave for his unannounced visit?
NBC published their story, and it was accurate. Trump then left on his secret visit about 8 hours after that and NBC updated their story when the news of his trip was made public.

That’s literally all we’re discussing. It is not a complex chain of events. It is not evidence of some media incompetence or anti-Trump conspiracy. If you want to remain upset about that by all means continue. I regret wasting time discussing this.

This is false.

There is also the dimension of ONLY them getting it wrong.

If this was so time-dependent others would have followed this line of criticism.

As it is, others picked a kind of opposite perversion to criticize the President.

The other thing is even after correction (notice by the way, there WAS correction needed), there remained partial truths that CONTINUED to be peddled. I’ve alluded to them and quoted them.

It is propagandizing you John. Don’t fall for it.

.
It is not evidence of some media incompetence . . .
And if this was basically the first time this kind of thing occured, I would agree with you.

But just go to CNN, MSNBC, and a couple of others nightly. Just look at their main “stories”.

It doesn’t matter WHAT happened that day.

It’s for all practical purposes EVERY NIGHT.

It is the same “news story”. – We hate Trump! F Trump. Etc. etc.

I understand the fact that they hate him. (I don’t hate President Trump. And I am not going to be brow-beaten to do so.)

That is going to have to be their problem.

I just want real news. I am very tired of nightly leftist evangelism. Many others are as well.

That is not an issue. The only reason they were the only ones that had to publish a correction is because they were the only ones that bothered to report on the story. There is nothing any of the other outlets knew that NBC didn’t know. It was a journalistic choice that was completely justified at the time they made it. The others choose to report on other stories. It was totally an accidental coincidence that the facts changed shortly after NBC published. And the facts did change, because the visit occurred after publication, and it was a surprise visit.
The other thing is even after correction (notice by the way, there WAS correction needed), there remained partial truths that CONTINUED to be peddled.
As has been explained many many times, the uncorrected reporting remained for people to see for transparency only. The editor’s note explained how to interpret the remainder of the story. And the story itself was corrected by changing “Christmantime” into “Christmas”, so that now, even the original reporting is still 100% correct. Just read it for yourself and see.

How do you know?

Did somebody ask NBC?

Did anybody ask C-Span?

Did NBC notify someone that they vetted the story before printing it?

.

As has been explained many many times, even the “correction” included partial truths to obscure transparency only.
