Of course. That’s the whole point isn’t it? Figurative and flowery language has always been in the church, (particularly in older books about Mary and devotionals) and we see literally dozens of threads a month from people who say “What does this mean? I don’t understand this! This troubles me!” Almost every. single. day.
It does nothing but CONFUSE.
In this day and age, there is no point in the greeting card words when dealing with people who have no experience with Mariology and who are just looking for a reason to call Catholics crazy.
It doesn’t help. It’s not worth it. It’s not helpful.

Why can’t we simply say that Mary is special. Different from us, Our Advocate, the Mother of God. Everyone can understand the love of a mother, and how to love a mother.
We don’t need to pile on a bunch of things that are always misinterpreted.

When a person writes “Mary died at the foot of the cross with Christ” that is deliberate, and invites criticism. If one was enrolled in a Theology class and made that statement…it wouldn’t go well. We’re Catholic here. Someone just posted a thread saying that they believe CAF represents the faith and another said that we are here to clarify and support the teachings. ???
The site might intend that but we all know that many persons post their own personal theologies.

The Church is VERY CLEAR on the place Mary has in salvation history and devotionally.

Our Lady needs no defense.
She stand alone in history.
**People who do not want to ask for her intercession miss out on a powerful advocate. **
Simple. Arguing about it wins no one over.
Many of us do not believe that, Clare. period. Jesus alone is our advocate and mediator and MORE THAN ENOUGH ! Oh my word yes! Only Jesus.

Again my thanks for this proportion.

I honestly never expected to be carped at for my love of Jesus.
This post you are commending, which lacked relevance, was a response to a post citing the Catechism which mentioned Our Lady with correct titles. This was official.

Post #88 was the correct answer.

No it is not,. That has been explained to you time and again.

Honour yes, devotion no.

'* II. DEVOTION TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN

971 “All generations will call me blessed”: **“The Church’s devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship.”**515’

’The Church rightly honors "the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of ‘Mother of God,’ to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs. . . .’
This very special devotion . . . differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration."516’
The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an “epitome of the whole Gospel,” **express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.**517’

Only the Marian advocates are doing that

And had Mary said no? Maybe other women had done and had she done that God would have asked another." He is not reliant on any one person.
Stop accusing people of the things you are doing.

As said, stop attacking Mary and her devotees by using Jesus’s name.

This is tantamount to using God’s Name in Vain.

A Catholic who doesn’t oppose the Catholic Church on matters of faith and doctrine.
Nor do I in any way. Please apologise?
Post then shown to poster revealing what is written, in red.
I am colourblind.

The the Bible uses Figurative and flowery language.

January 1: The Feast of Mary, the Mother of God.

August 15: Assumption of Mary into heaven.

December 8: The Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

As in several threads lately the topic of devotion to the Blessed Mother has come up I thought I’d write what a false devotee would be, according to St. Louis de Montfort (True Devotion to Mary pg 41-46).

"There are, I find, seven kinds of false devotees and false devotions to Mary. I class the devotees as critical, scrupulous, exterior, presumptuous, inconstant, hypocritical, and interested.
Thank you ,USMC.

What a wonderful book True Devotion to Mary is! St. Louis explains so well what true devotion to Mary is, and that the way to Jesus is through Mary.

Pope Leo 13th, for example, teaches the same thing:

4… The Eternal Son of God, about to take upon Him our nature for the saving and ennobling of man, and about to consummate thus a mystical union between Himself and all mankind, did not accomplish His design without adding there the free consent of the elect Mother, who represented in some sort all human kind, according to the illustrious and just opinion of St. Thomas, who says that the Annunciation was effected with the consent of the Virgin standing in the place of humanity.[5] With equal truth may it be also affirmed that, by the will of God, Mary is the intermediary through whom is distributed unto us this immense treasure of mercies gathered by God, for mercy and truth were created by Jesus Christ.[6] Thus as no man goeth to the Father but by the Son, so no man goeth to Christ but by His Mother. How great are the goodness and mercy revealed in this design of God! What a correspondence with the frailty of man! We believe in the infinite goodness of the Most High, and we rejoice in it; we believe also in His justice and we fear it. We adore the beloved Savior, lavish of His blood and of His life; we dread the inexorable Judge. Thus do those whose actions have disturbed their consciences need an intercessor mighty in favor with God, merciful enough not to reject the cause of the desperate, merciful enough to lift up again towards hope in the divine mercy the afflicted and the broken down. Mary is this glorious intermediary; she is the mighty Mother of the Almighty; but-what is still sweeter – she is gentle, extreme in tenderness, of a limitless loving-kindness. As such God gave her to us. Having chosen her for the Mother of His only begotten Son, He taught her all a mother’s feeling that breathes nothing but pardon and love…

I distinctly remember, from studying the forum rules, that there were prohibitions, strictly enforced, concerning the excessive use of red type, bolding and abnormal fonts.

One look at this thread reveals the wisdom of the moderators and the managers of the forum to forbid such behaviour.

The ones being attacked are not the Mother of Jesus but rather those in the thread who do not choose to engage any exercise of Marian piety as part of their prayer life…which, of course, is their prerogative. That is the distinction.

As for metaphorical language, to “die a thousand deaths” is indeed metaphorical. That is different from the quote cited.
But, she died too, with him… standing there at the foot of the cross.

I am not falling into anything, I had a serious question for Don Ruggero so I asked.

Yes many here have eluded to “Marian devotion is wrong” but never came out and said such words.

As to what changed my mind that is between me, my confessor and God.

As far as I can tell nobody is nagging anyone, go through all three threads and you will see that it is not the Marian devotees on the attack here. We are defending the devotion. At least that’s my perspective.
And trying to help others understand why we are devoted to Our Lady. The Church has given us soooo many beautiful ways to express our love for Her. God Bless, Memaw

I was just over on Father Z’s blog and he mentioned this extract from Pope Pius XII’s encyclical letter Ad Caeli Reginam (1954). Though you all might enjoy reading the Pope’s words. . .

48.Let all, therefore, try to approach with greater trust the throne of grace and mercy of our Queen and Mother, and beg for strength in adversity, light in darkness, consolation in sorrow; above all let them strive to free themselves from the slavery of sin and offer an unceasing homage, filled with filial loyalty, to their Queenly Mother. Let her churches be thronged by the faithful, her feast-days honored; may the beads of the Rosary be in the hands of all; may Christians gather, in small numbers and large, to sing her praises in churches, in homes, in hospitals, in prisons. May Mary’s name be held in highest reverence, a name sweeter than honey and more precious than jewels; may none utter blasphemous words, the sign of a defiled soul, against that name graced with such dignity and revered for its motherly goodness; let no one be so bold as to speak a syllable which lacks the respect due to her name.

Thanks for mentioning St. Francis’s greetings to the Blessed Virgin, Friardchips. I’d never heard of that. that is beautiful.

(People also might want to look up the Psalter of the Blessed Virgin by St. Bonaventure)

yes truly “in her remains the whole fullness of grace.” And she is truly the “bride of the Holy Spirit”, as the prayer says.

Pope St. JPII tells us:

In a sense her journey of faith is longer. The Holy Spirit had already come down upon her, and she became his faithful spouse at the Annunciation, welcoming the Word of the true God, offering “the full submission of intellect and will…and freely assenting to the truth revealed by him,” indeed abandoning herself totally to God through "the obedience of faith,"60 whereby she replied to the angel: “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” The journey of faith made by Mary, whom we see praying in the Upper Room, is thus longer than that of the others gathered there: Mary “goes before them,” “leads the way” for them.
