Father Z doesn’t have big book deals or books on the shelf at Barnes & Noble’s or CNN interviews

He clearly recognizes same sex unions even if he does not explicitly advocate them for the Church as seen in the quotes above.

Recognizes them? Well, they do in fact exist. Recognition of facts doesn’t strike me as unorthodox.

He has said such unions should be “reverenced.” Give me a break, anyone can see what he’s advocating. Which is why several cardinals and bishops have warned about his teachings.

It depends. Chastity is important.

It also depends if he is acting on his SSA. Given the preponderance of male on male acts during the sex abuse crisis, parents should be wary.

There’s an element of plausible deniability as to what he’s actually saying. Leading to confusion…there seems to be a lot of confusion these days…

If homo phobia means a fear of homosexuals, I’m not.
If homophobia means a hatred of homosexuals I don’t.
Problem for them is, there is a fine line between someone hating their sin, and not them.
It’s hard not for them to take it personally.
But I disagree with Fr. Martin’s approach. Bordering on celebration of homosexuality.

30-35%? That is so absurd as to not be taken seriously. It’s conjecture at best, and not very helpful conjecture.

The LA times poll of nearly 2,000 priests found something like 9% were gay. Far from 30-35%. The number is likely even lower now since Benedict tightened the standards for seminary admissions.

Are you going to continue to move the goal post and then go all Sola Scriptura on me?
Sola Scriptura? I did not ask for Scripture necessarily. I only thought someone whose username says “philosopher” could cite some Church references and correctly apply them, …

… and I’m sorry, LifeSiteNews doesn’t measure up to that standard.
Hey, I’m not the one openly rejecting Church dogma and giving into grave heresy that needs to be repented of.
You have yet to apply Church dogma to the matter as I earlier invited you to do.

I hope you did not mean to imply that I am “openly rejecting Church dogma and giving into grave heresy that needs to be repented of.” That might be against forum rules, though I would never flag anyone for that. The truth is that I am just an inquisitive Catholic who occasionally asks others to tighten up loose statements.

I have not seen this video, but I have read enough text, conferences extract and “twit” of him to know that is goal is to “normalise” same sex union, and change Church Teaching.

He avances semi-masked, don’t show is inners thoughts, but show enough of himself with his twits how sound like secular LGBT agenda.

He is a disastrous for SSA persons who want to mainstain a chaste-life, for Church and society…

If I can just comment on the video as a whole.
I am surprised that Catholic priests can give such frank personal assessments of the Pope.
Fr. Martin was critical of Pope Francis handling of sexual abuse scandals for instance.
The interviewer reinforces a divide in the Church between traditionalists and progressives. And Father Martin too seems happy with it. Arent these kinds of interviews working against Church Unity ? Would father martin be happier to be known as a Progressive Catholic than just Catholic?

I do not see wide spread homophobia in the Church neither among its members nor with Church teaching. Please cite where you see homophobia of its members.
It’s such a vague accusation. Hard to measure. Interesting how they would measure the degree of homophobia in each parish. Questionaires would be the obvious option, but who is going to answer them honestly?
I suspect Fr. Martin needs homophobia to exist, to promote his book sales.

Actually, I really loved his books, “Jesuit Guide to Almost Everything” published in 2010 and “My Life with the Saints” published in 2006. They were really inspiring, informative, and orthodox.

He has gone off track somewhat, as most all of can see.

Let us be certain to pray for this priest and always remember to pray for all priests.

They are all under great spiritual attack that is invisible to the naked eye. The devil often puts greater emphasis on “striking the shepherd” in order for the sheep to be scattered.

good catholic,

I have not his exact own words (don’t want to loose time to search…) but he said that people who are attacking him are attacking the Pope. Because he has an official mission on the Vatican on homosexualty subject.

Yes @(name removed by moderator)! Couldn’t have said it better.

You know, I agree that we have to treat them with love, respect, and to not discriminate them in any way possible. However, wrong is wrong and there are things that simply are not correct. Homosexual unions are sinful, being transexual is straight up a mental illness that needs to be addressed, and these things can’t be accepted under the guise of kindness. Kindness and sinful compromise are two diferent things. We have to pray very hard for Fr. James and for our brothers and sisters who are struggling with homosexuality.
