The more I look at the interior of this structure, the more I like it.
The crucifix is commanding and along with the wonderful altar is the center focus of the entire room – its visual impact is not diluted by a great deal of bric-a-brac. The sanctuary is gorgeous – it appears to be very well designed out of white marble. The presbytery is also well done. It will hold a lot of men, yet they are still clearly visible to those in the pews. That’s elegant design.
The design includes a “grand mall” center aisle which really helps with big ceremonies. There is even a niche for the choir. Very nice indeed. I really like the gently sloping floor too. It doesn’t slope enough to make one feel like they are in a theater, but it does appear to slope enough to aid viewing. Very thoughtful – I wish more churches would include that in their design.
They did a nice job with the pew location too. It’s hard to believe the space looks as intimate as it does while still seating 9K people. The pews themselves look very nice and the walkways are nice and wide to allow the easy enter/exit of everyone, including the handicapped. The indirect lighting is also absolutely sublime.
