Favorite Christmas Carol

I love Christmas, everything about it, always have. I especially enjoy the music. So what is your fav and why?

There are hundreds of traditional and contermpory carols and hyms. For this poll we’ll confine the parameters to the traditional.

I put as many on the list I could think. If I left yours off, I reckon you’lll hafta to make a note here. Sorry. But it’s MY poll so I get to chose the songs :hey_bud:

I went with 1st Noel, because the boys choir at Christ The King in VIrginia could sing it so well.
 
Celebrating our wedding anniversary on the 19th Dec one year, were at a restaurant overlooking the cities river when they began an incredible fireworks display above. On the P.A. system in the park surrounding us, they played ‘O Holy Night’ - we were spellbound, it was just like being in heaven! It had always been our favorite hymn, this just gave it the icing on the cake! One night we will never forget!!!:heaven: ❤️:harp:

Hands down, my favorite is John Berry’s version of O Holy Night. The song is one of my favorites no matter who sings it, but that version is just incredible.

Next on my list has to be Josh Groban’s version of The Little Drummer Boy. I picked up the CD at Barnes and Noble last year, scanned it on the machine that lets you sample the music, and within just a couple of bars of music, tears were streaming down my cheeks. It was that awe-inspiring.
 
Hard to pick I like all of them, but O Holy Night has always been one of my favorites.
 
O Holy Night is my favorite carol, when it is sung by a good classical choir and soloist with a trained voice, and proper (very muted) accompaniment. When it is sung by anyone whose work regularly is heard on pop, country or contemporary Christian music stations, it is the worst song in the world, bar none, of any genre. My radio will be off until after the New year, starting next Thursday, because that song will be butchered at least once an hour during that time and I can’t stand it.

my favorite carol that can be sung by about any group and still sound good is Silent Night, any language.

little drummer boy is sappy but it still makes me cry.

Oh,oh I forgot about ‘Little Drummer Boy’ as well, has been my absolutely fab Christmas song all my life. Because we were married just before Christmas, I just had to have that as part of the service - played it during the offertory!👍.
 
I love everything, I think, especially O Come O Come Immanuel and a Celtic version of a song whose title I can’t remember that goes “My love, my treasured One are you, my sweet and lovely Son are you, You are my own, my Darling, You, unworthy I of You.” A country singer popularized it not long ago. Somewhere along the line I got hooked on early European polyphony and there are gobs of really wonderful ancient carols that leave me covered in goosebumps. But then again, I still love the Carpenters Christmas album,and John Denver…and Percy Faith…and Andy Williams…and Mannheim Steamroller… :rotfl:
 
Ave Maria by a long shot…but for a contemporary song…I have always like The Carpenters…they were a little before my time, but Karen’s voice singing…Merry Christmas, Darling…is ugh. Just melts me. :o

Well, I voted for “O Holy Night” but it is actually my second favorite…

What happened to “What Child Is This”??? That is my most favorite Christmas Carol of all!

“O Little Town of Bethlehem” is in third place.
 
Little Town of Bethlehem followed by In the Bleak Midwinter followed by the rest mentioned here.
 
I picked Silent Night because my mother used to sing it to me as a lullaby. Every time I hear it I think of her. 🙂

I love all the Christmas carols, though. I especially like Boney M’s version of Mary’s Boy Child, and I like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s version of O Come, O Come Emmanuel. :love:
 
O Holy Night - hands down. I can hardly even think about it without getting goose bumps.

I like them all but since the poll was made in such a way as I had to pick one, I chose “Silent Night”, it is hard to sing but I love it and I really love the story of how the song was written! (silly little mice ;))

Reverent versions of “The Little Drummer Boy” (Bing Crosby?). Reduces me to tears nearly every time.

Ok, “Jeremiah was a bullfrog” is going to be floating around in my head for at least the next six weeks.

AAAAAAGGGGGHHHH :eek: :eek:

I voted for O Holy Night- like it most like Puzzle Annie.

Silent Night with just a guitar is good, too. Both of those might just be enough to get rid of old Jeremiah. :harp:
