i don’t know if this is the best board to put this but what are some of your favorite images of our blessed mother, Mary Mother of God

mine is below, very similar to the image that is on my friends ordination card, his mom painted it for him so cool, and i have it on my night stand by my bed which is desiened as my prayer area.

I hope you guys realize that she more than likely had dark skin just like jesus did. They were in a hotter area where people were very tan and had darker/thicker hair. The pictures of the jesus looking as a ‘white man’ are simply not true. there is a scripture in the bible that talks about how jesus looked. Mary did not look like your typical white woman, im sure of it.

You’re right, the artists should have asked her to sit for them.

** This day was born the glorious Virgin Mary, * a child of the seed of Abraham, a daughter of the tribe of Judah, a Princess of the lineage of David.** First Vespers of the Nativity of the Blessed virgin Mary

We fly unto thy patronage,
O holy Mother of God;
despise not our petitions in our necessities,
but deliver us always from all dangers,
O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen.

3rd Century; Oldest Known Prayer to Mary

My favorites are both from from Giovanni Battista Salvi da Sassoferrato.

The Virgin in Prayer [in the OP] and Madonna in Sorrow.

Without a doubt, my favourite image of the blessed virgin is Murillo’s depiction of the Annunciation. He was the greatest Baroque painter in my opinion (he died in 1682), so it is only fitting that I use one of his paintings for this topic. It is absolutely the best depiction of Mary’s humility and divine innocence. Look at the way she has dropped her laundry-basket in surprise! She is filled with awe and silent reverence at the fact that an angel has come to send her - little Mary! - the very Word of the Most High.

I LOVE that portrait. I always feel I could reach out and touch the soft folds of her veil!

We know, friend, but we were asked for our favorites portraits and these just happen to be them. What is your favorite depiction of Our Blessed Mother?

O Mother of Perpetual Help
To thee we come imploring help.
Behold us here, from far and near,
To ask of thee our help to be;
Behold us here, from far and near,
To ask of thee our help to be.

Perpetual help we beg of thee;
Our souls from sin and sorrow free;
Direct our wandering feet aright,
And be thyself out own true light;
Direct our wandering feet aright,
And be thyself out own true light.

And when this life is o’er for me,
This last request I ask of thee:
Obtain for me in heaven this grace,
To see my God there face to face;
Obtain for me in heaven this grace,
To see my God there face to face.
