I second that.Shawshank Redemption, the escape scene.
That scene is tough to beat.
Half of the drama of it is that Andy has beaten the devilish Warden Samuel Norton.
And, you have to wonder what effect this escape will have on Norton.
I have a copy of Steve Kingâs novella, âRita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemptionâ on which the movie is based. In the novella, there is no high tension between Andy and the warder. Andy doesnât help Norton steal money and put it in banks under a false name. Norton is the fourth warden during the time Andy is in jail. After Andy escapes, Norton retires. No explanation of why.
The movie greatly improved on the story.
Of course,
the movie only works if you accept the unrealistic premise that Andy could not have any contact with a lawyer or anyone else on the outside world. Not realistic, especially when you consider Red himself had contact with the outside world because he was the man who got you things.
