Shawshank Redemption
The Natural
A Christmas Carol (made for TV with George C. Scott)

The Robe with Richard Burton, Victor Mature and Jean Simmons. It is still a great story even though the scenery relied on a lot of painted backdrops.

These are from least to greatest . . .

10.) Hook
9.) Face-Off
8.) Dumb and Dumber
7.) Miss Congeniality
6.) Twister
5.) Titanic
4.) 10 Things I Hate About You
3.) Pirates of the Caribbean (the first and second one)
2.) The Notebook
1.) A League of Their Own

Religious:

The Miracle of Our Lady at Fatima
The Passion of the Christ
A Man for All Seasons

Secular:

LOTR
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
Random Harvest
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

A lot of the old ones that were already mentioned, plus:

The Scarlet and the Black, with Gregory Peck, Christopher Plummer & Sir John Gielgud

Going My Way, the prequel to The Bells of St. Mary’s, with Bing Crosby and Barry Fitzgerald

…for religious films. For secular, a couple good ones:

*True Grit *and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, both starring John Wayne

and Gettysburg, with Tom Berenger, Jeff Daniels and Martin Sheen.

In no particular order, and just off the top of my head:

Dead Man Walking
Lantana
Mullet
Jesus’ Son
In My Father’s Den
Whale Rider
Grizzly Man
Amores Perros
You Can Count on Me
Paris, Texas
The Interview
Gettin’ Square

The machinist
yep, great film. Did you know Christian Bale was filming *Batman Begins *about the same time? (Just before or just after, I can’t remember.) So he had to go from skeleton-thin in this one to Caped Crusader-buff in the other.
I loved the look of this film - that washed out noirish blue-grey - and the intensity of Bale’s performance.
