My personal all-time favourite is the original Star Wars. I was eight years old when it was released in 1977, have seen it several times since, including the theatrical re-release for the anniversary. I never get tired of it. The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are also pretty good. I could not stand the new trilogy, especially that annoying Jar-Jar Binks. Chewbacca was a much cooler sidekick.

Scary, Palmas. I could almost have written that list. Particularly scary is Cat Ballou, since that (at least in my neck of the woods) doesn’t seem to be a particularly well-known or appreciated film except among my family, where we absolutely love it 😃

  1. Saving Private Ryan
  2. Donnie Darko
  3. Anything with Leslie Nielsen (The naked gun movies)
  4. Behind Enemy Lines
  5. Black Hawk Down
  6. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
  7. (yes, I am a guy but) Sixteen Candles
  8. Breakfast Club
  9. The Great Escape
  10. Lord of the Rings Trilogy

I still laugh until my sides hurt and tears come down my face with that movie. As you can tell from my list I’m not a great fan of comedy but that one is great. Blues Brothers almost made my list but I had to stop someplace. When Kid Shaleen’s horse gets drunk every bit of sadness I might have had just disappears. Lee Marvin is one of the greats.

CDL

Religious
-The Passion of the Christ
-Ben-Hur (1959, of course!)

Secular
-Lord of the Rings Trilogy
-Star Wars (All of them, but principally 3-6)
-Gladiator
-Air Force One
-Braveheart
I love all these movies, they are forever in my heart, and I’d like to add other two movies that I saw a few time ago and I loved:

Secular
-All the President’s Men
-The Silence of the Lambs

Some of My Fav films:
10. Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut
  1. The Prince of Egypt - I loved this animated version of “The Ten Commandments” almost as much the Demille take on it. This film also had a rather underrated straight to video prequel
“Joseph - King of Dreams” which was utterly fantastic storytelling too, although sadly lacking in animation quality.
  2. Superman 1978
  3. Groundhog Day
  4. The Passion of the Christ
  5. The Empire Strikes Back - I like all the Star wars films actually, including episodes 1 -3, but this is the best one of the lot.
  6. The Ten Commandments
  7. Ben Hur
  8. Lawrence of Arabia
  9. Hamlet, 1996 for me too… And I got to see it on the big screen in crystal clear 70MM, like it was meant to be seen. I love the scene with Billy Crystal as the Grave digger, a bit of light comedy chucked in at the right moment, Shakespeare was masterful and Branagh really knows how to do it on the big screen, I would have loved to see him tackle “Macbeth” or “Julius Caesar” too. The sheer pageantry and spectacle of the setting really made one feel like you were there right beside them.

Cat Ballou is a great movie. I laugh everytime I see it. I watched it with my aunt when I was in high school, and now everytime I see it I think of her. In fact, it was on Encore Westerns a couple of weeks ago and it brought back a lot of fond memories for me. Of course not very many people have seen it, so it’s nice to know that there are others around that have enjoyed it as much as I have.
