Never seen this posted on the forum, and thought it would be interesting to know everyone’s favorite Pope and why that particular Pope is your favorite.

Pope Paul VI because he did not beckon to people in the 1860s who thought that birth control should be allowed and I love his encyclical Humae Vitae

Blessed John XXIII- for calling the 2nd Vatican Council.

Blessed John Paul II, because he was Pope for most of my life,
and I have always loved him!! 🙂

Alexander VI, he was such a great “bad guy”!! 😉 😛

In no particular order…
  1. Blessed John Paul II, I am of his generation.
  2. Pope Paul VI , for his landmark encyclical.
  3. St. Pius X, for his defense(s) against modernism.
  4. Pope Benedict XVI, for all of his current work.
  5. Blessed John XXIII, for calling Vatican II.
And finally…

St. Peter. Kephas. The Rock. He who holds the Keys. Our First Pope,

Personally, I have a big fascination with Pope Gregory the Great. I am a huge fan of Pope Benedict XVI. I also am fascinated with Pope Sylvester II for his promotion of the sciences. I would have said a couple years ago that Bl. John Paul II was my favorite, although in recent years I am noticing all the problems that perversed the church grew under his reign, and it is Benedict that is restoring the purity of the Church. I do acknowledge that Bl. JP II was an amazing Pope nonetheless, and that he was instrumental in opening the world’s eyes once again to Catholic Church. I also think he was instrumental in converting a lot of Protestants over to full communion with Rome. I guess I am just torn on his reign.

In the last 2 centuries. Pius IX and Pius X, for not caring what the world thought.

My favorite Pope is,John Paul 11. He truly was a man devoted to Jesus & Mary. He Loved all that he came in contected with, no matter what countries he when to. He
LOVE childern, he Visit the sick, and wasn,t afraid to travel to any were.he suffered much for the LOVE of Jesus and Mary,He speard the word, as Jesus wanted.

Peter of course, then Gregory, Pius X, Leo XIII.

I love Peter because I think I would have liked him personally, his personality (Lord, you won’t wash my feet, then yikes, wash my hands and head too; and he suffered such pain of regret and sorrow for his denial on Good Friday.) I remember reading that Pius X was a very humble and holy man, and complained once about all the elaborate vestments he had to wear. Leo XIII, can only remember right now that he gave us the St. Michael prayer. And also Pope St Gregory for chant.

My Patron, Pius IX.

However Saint Pius X comes in a close second and so does Leo XIII.

I have always loved the present popes throughout my life time beginning with Pope Pius XII. But there was/is something very dear and special about Blessed John Paul II. He was the first pope that was so well traveled leaving Rome to go out and visit Catholics all over the world. And of course Television and the internet making it possible for people to have a closer look at what is going on. Pope JPII wrote so many Encyclical and other writings helping us to better understand the teachings of the church. His great devotion to our Blessed Mother and his reaching out to all people with the message of God’s love and mercy are some things that touch me the most. I get emotional just thinking of him.

I also have a fascination with Pius X.
