I used to play in a semi-pro rock band back in the day. Iā€™m pretty old school in my tastes. There is no way to narrow down all the tunes to do a list. But the top tunes by the following (asterisk for the ones Iā€™ve seen in concert):
  • AC/DC
  • Animals
  • Bad Company
  • The Beatles*
  • David Bowie
  • Jackson Browne
  • Creedence

  • CSN&Y
  • Dire Straits
  • Doors
  • Bob Dylan
  • Eagles
  • Fleetwood Mac
  • Foreigner
  • Grateful Dead****
  • Heart
  • Hendrix
  • Jefferson Airplane/Starship
  • Jethro Tull
  • Janis Joplin
  • Kinks
  • Led Zepplin*
  • Steve Miller
  • Eddie Money
  • Moody Blues*
  • Robert Palmer
  • Tom Petty

Iā€™ve read that Keith did not initially like a lot of their stuff from this era, but has come to appreciate it. I also like Emotional Rescue.

Iā€™m a huge Skynyrd fan, so Free Bird is my favorite. I know that might sound trite, but being a fan, I just canā€™t help but love this one.

Free bird, the redneck national anthem? Remember, I live in South Carolina. And thereā€™s nothing wrong with that.

Iā€™m surprised I havenā€™t seen these:

Paint It Blackā€¦The Rolling Stones

House of the Rising Sunā€¦The Animals

Iā€™ve been around a whileā€¦

Iā€™m wondering if anyone here is familiar with the frigid pink version of House of the Rising Sun.

ZZ TOP! yes yes yes Sharp Dressed Man
Steppenwolf: Born To Be Wild
Door: Riders on the Stor & Hello I Love You
Country Joe and the FIsh "Goin to the Country
CREAM: Anything

My first rock concert ever was Jimi Hendrix & Cream. At the pit.
Awesome.

I remember Janis Joplin too, although she didnā€™tā€™ really ā€œsingā€ per se, LOL
Iā€™m kind of surprised that no has mentioned Grand Funk Railroad.

Creedence Clearwater, WOW!
Funny (and true story)
When my daughter turned 21, she and a bunch of her friends got a Suite at one of the better Hotels in Atlanta, bought a bunch of liquor (because they were able to, had no idea what they were purchasing) and proceeded to party on the balcony of their suite and planning to go home the next day when everyone sobered up.
Two things happened, They decided that booze ainā€™t all itā€™s cracked up to be (tasted pretty bad to them) but they still were laughing and carrying on. Some men leaned over the edge of their own balcony above the girls, and said
"Hey girls, wanna come up to our suite and party? Weā€™re in a band!
Gurls: which one?
Guy: Creedence Clearwater Revival!
Gurls: we never heard of you!
Guy: OUCH! Thatā€™s harsh! Are you kidding? Look us up on YouTube!
So, Rebecca calls me: "Mama, have you ever heard of a band called Clearwater somethng? Or Creed something?
Me: OF COURSE< oh wow, they are fabulous and one of my favorites!!!
Rebecca: They are in the suite above us, and they want us to come up and party, but donā€™t worry mama, weā€™re not goin up there with those old men!
Me: Tell them Iā€™ll be right there!!!
Rebecca: No offense mama, butā€¦I donā€™t think they really want to see YOU.

Little smart aleck.
I should have gone, šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜šŸ¤£

I love the Doors!

One of my favorite high school teachers got me to like them. He had Doorsā€™ posters in his classroom.

Winger - ā€œSeventeenā€
That song pops into my head whenever I come across the number 17. But, yeah, there is no way that song would fly today! It didnā€™t seem inappropriate to me at the time because I was only 10 when it came out.

Oh that reminds me of the dismal song" At 17" by Janis Ian.
UGH
What a horrible song.
That probably contributed to more teen angst than any other

Yeah but at least she wasnā€™t crazy like ā€œAngie Babyā€

Yeahā€¦ But without John Fogerty? I donā€™t know how that party would go.

That was my thinking. He was so nice to them. He said ā€œIā€™m not a perv, I promise!ā€ ā¤ļø

Lyrics aside, crank it up on a good stereo, and along with the vocals itā€™s still one of the coolest rock grooves, IMO. Back when I was playing music, I was a pretty wild liberal (cluelessly) and never gave much thought to any lyrics for any song. I look back at some of that stuff now and itā€™s likeā€¦ šŸ˜®
