Where in the Bible is it? Please share it with us here. (please don’t gripe that “all” was not an option in the poll. Too often in polls like this, people choose all without exporing and searching for an answer.)

I will start us off. My favorite verse is the second-to-last in the whole Bible. It is my favorite because of its zealous message of hope for Christ’s return…

Rev. 22:20: “The one who gives this testimony says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!”
 
I don’t know if I have one all-time favorite. One that I have recently become very fond of lately is Proverbs 1:7 (or 1:4, depending on translation):

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fools despise wisdom and instruction. "
 
Those are good. I also like John 16:33b, when Jesus says…

“In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.”
 
1Peter 3:15 “but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope”.

Living in the Baptist “Bible Belt”, I find this scripture passage gives me added strength when I am challenged for my faith.

I suddenly felt compelled to post here again. Another favorite of mine is I Cor. 11:23-25:
“I received from the LORD (emphasis added) what I handed on to you, namely, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which he was betrayed took bread, and after he had given thanks, broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’…”

From Deuteronomy 30:18 (I think)

I** call heaven and earth today to witness against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, **

It can apply to any decision you make, not just the actual life and death decisions. God offers a blessing or a curse, life or death. By doing X instead of Y am I affirming life and blessing or death and curses? It’s a guide for me.

I also love the verse from Isaiah 40–Those who wait upon the Lord will rise up in strength, they will mount up on wings of eagles, they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not faint…

I enjoy these threads to see what verses others try to live by.

I think it is Matt 6 “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”
 
I have two favorites:

First, this one is my real favorite becasue for me it completely explains the plan for salvation, namely God’s gracious gift of salvation is aceepted through grace, so that we can do good works for the glory of God:

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God— 9 not because of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-9

…and my second is because of the significance of how much God loves us:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

There are quite a few which I am fond of, including John 3:16 (which I’m sure I don’t need to quote); 😉 However, Tobit is one of my favourite books, and chapter 12 is perhaps my favourite of all these. I won’t quote chapter 12 entirely, but the following perhaps sum up chapter 12 for me.

6 Raphael called the two men aside privately and said to them: “Thank God! Give him the praise and the glory. Before all the living, acknowledge the many good things he has done for you, by blessing and extolling his name in song. Before all men, honor and proclaim God’s deeds, and do not be slack in praising him.
7 A king’s secret it is prudent to keep, but the works of God are to be declared and made known. Praise them with due honor. Do good, and evil will not find its way to you.
12 I can now tell you that when you, Tobit, and Sarah prayed, it was I who presented and read the record of your prayer before the Glory of the Lord; and I did the same thing when you used to bury the dead.
13 When you did not hesitate to get up and leave your dinner in order to go and bury the dead,
14 I was sent to put you to the test. At the same time, however, God commissioned me to heal you and your daughter-in-law Sarah.

I don’t know, there are so many wonderful ones! But I really love John 14:
1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me.

2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.

4 Where (I) am going you know the way."

So many lovely verses in the same chapter! :love:
 
Another one I’m really fond of is the canticle from Phillipians (Phi 2:5-11):
*5 *Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, *6 *who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, *7 *but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. *8 *And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. *9 *Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, *10 *that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, *11 *and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Mine is Rev. 12. The whole chapter. It involves so many great things; Mary, Christ’s birth, the defeat of evil… Ah, I really enjoy this whole chapter. So much goodness.
 
1st John 1:9, If we confess our sins; He is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins.
 
Observation regarding the poll; the Pentateuch is the first 5 books of the Bible, otherwise known as the Torah. (see root word “pent” meaning 5) : Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. From what I understand, these were the ONLY books the Sadducees believed in, wheras the Pharisees believed in the entire deuterocanonical books. (or do I have that backwards?)

Regarding my favorite verse: I have several, but I keep coming back to Mt 7:7: Ask and you shall recieve, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened. For the one who asks recieves; the one who seeks, finds, and the one who knocks, enters."
