One of my favorite verses is Judges 21:25 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. Kind of like all the non-denominational churches around these days, don’t you think?

That kind of reminds me of Jeremiah 5:30-31:
A shocking, horrible thing has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests teach as they wish; Yet my people will have it so; what will you do when the end comes?

But the whole of Chapter 5 is worth reading. Kind of one of those “those who do not know history are…” things.

Jeremiah 18: 1-6 (I think, the first few verses anyway). Go figure, it’s about a potter!

But they urged him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
Lk 24:29
It just reminds me that no matter how dark the coming “night” may seem if only we ask him he will be there with us.

Wisdom was my vote:
Psalm 27:4
One thing I ask of the LORD; this I seek: To dwell in the LORD’S house all the days of my life, To gaze on the LORD’S beauty, to visit his temple.

Runner up:
Isaiah 49:15
Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you.

But there are many good ones here and I went with my initial preference. One thing’s for sure, no one tops the Holy Spirit’s love letters.

In honor of JPII, who always exhorted us, “Do not be afraid”:

Matthew 10:28-31:
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge.
Even all the hairs of your head are counted.
So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

“And you, Peter, who do you say I am?”

“Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Solomon, filled with the Holy Spirit, describes Jesus in the Book of Wisdom.

**NAB WISDOM 7:24 **

**For Wisdom is mobile beyond all things by reason of her purity. For she is an aura of the might of God and a pure effusion of the glory of the Almighty; therefore nought that is sullied enters into her. For she is the refulgence of eternal light, the spotless mirror of the power of God, the image of his goodness. And she, who is one, can do all things, and renews everything while herself perduring; And passing into holy souls from age to age, she produces friends of God and prophets. For there is nought God loves, be it not one who dwells with Wisdom. For she is fairer than the sun and surpasses every constellation of the stars. Compared to light, she takes precedence; for that, indeed, night supplants, but wickedness prevails not over Wisdom. **Peace in Christ,

My very favorite Bible passage so far that I have read:

1 Cor 13:4-8 - “Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”

Yeah, so I’m a sap, but I absolutely LOVE that one 😉 I’ll post others if I remember them.

My favourite passage is found in Proverbs 31:10-31
Beautiful! @>-;-

*10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. 16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. 17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. 18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. 19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. 20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. 24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. 25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. 30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

You left out Psalms because it really doesn’t fit anywhere I love all the Psalms and often read them before I go to bed. The Gospel of John is wonderful to read straight through not just in verses. I also read the calming of the waters story in all the Gospels because I have a Holy picture of that event in our Lord’s life. It helps me with my panic attacks and nightmares. The Psalms help also, particularly the Shepard Psalm Twenty Three.

I voted for Psalms too. They are part of the Wisdom books. I had to look in the front of my bible to see what category they were in.

Ah, bugger. I’m in the minority. Ah well. One of the Pauline Letters…whatever categories that was.

1 Cor 12:31
Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts. But I shall show you a still more excellent way.

----I particularly like, “Still more excellent way”…sounds so Bill & Ted, I guess.

I’m also particular to Galatians 6:11
“See with what large letters I am writing to you in my own hand!”

----Because, this is still inspired, nonetheless.

Mine is Luke 23:39-43, the part about the Good Theif:

39 Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us.”
40 The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, “Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation?
41 And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.”
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43 He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

Mine is Psalm 118:24…

“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad.”

John 1:1 and Isaiah 5:20

And Psalm 90 (91) saved my life.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High,
who abides in the shadow of the Almighty,
will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress;
my God, in whom I trust.”
For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence;
he will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand;
but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.
Because you have made the LORD your refuge,
the Most High your habitation,
no evil shall befall you,
no scourge come near your tent.
For he will give his angels charge of you
to guard you in all your ways.
On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You will tread on the lion and the adder,
the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot.
Because he cleaves to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will rescue him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him,
and show him my salvation.
