This is my favorite passage in scripture; it presents God’s mercy and salvation in its simplest terms.

Luke 23:38-43
There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”

But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”

Peace

Jesus said, “and you, will you also go away?” And Peter said “Lord, to whom should we go? You alone have the words of eternal life.”

(I forget the verse #)

Mine is the whole of Psalm 116. There’s a story behind it, but it’s long and personal. 😉

Psalms 116

I love the LORD, because he has heard
my voice and my supplications.
Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
The snares of death encompassed me;
the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.
Then I called on the name of the LORD:
“O LORD, I beseech thee, save my life!”
Gracious is the LORD, and righteous;
our God is merciful.
The LORD preserves the simple;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return, O my soul, to your rest;
for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling;
I walk before the LORD
in the land of the living.
I kept my faith, even when I said,
“I am greatly afflicted”;
I said in my consternation,
“Men are all a vain hope.”
What shall I render to the LORD
for all his bounty to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the LORD,
I will pay my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the LORD
is the death of his saints.
O LORD, I am thy servant;
I am thy servant, the son of thy handmaid.
Thou hast loosed my bonds.
I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of the LORD.
I will pay my vows to the LORD
in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the house of the LORD,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the LORD!

There are too many that I like, LOL. But I feel like 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter 😉

****If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Charity is patient, is kind: charity envieth not, dealeth not perversely, is not puffed up,

Is not ambitious, seeketh not her own, is not provoked to anger, thinketh no evil:

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth with the truth:

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Charity never falleth away: whether prophecies shall be made void or tongues shall cease or knowledge shall be destroyed.

For we know in part: and we prophesy in part.

But when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I put away the things of a child.

We see now through a glass in a dark manner: but then face to face. Now I know in part: but then I shall know even as I am known.

And now there remain faith, hope, and charity, these three: but the greatest of these is charity.

My favorite verse is my signature. It reduces everything that we worry about on a day to day basis down to silliness. God is on our side, what else do you need to know? 🙂

I like a lot of scripture, the Johnine books (John and 1,2,3 John) The Prophets, and the wisdom books especially Wisdom and Sirach. however my favorite passage is Isaiah 49:15-16

“Can a woman forget her infant, so as not to have pity on the son of her womb? and if she should forget, yet will not I forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee in my hands: thy walls are always before my eyes.” Isaiah 49:15-16 Douay-Rhiems

I can’t help but seeing in it Christ promising to never forget us, his brothers and sisters, and the nails piercing his hands as he hung upon the cross. It is as if he is saying it directly to me.

Two small favorites:

Proverbs 30:16: The fire never says, “Enough!”

Hebrews 10:31: It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!

1 Corinthians 13…it’s about love. It seems that people my age nowadays don’t really know what love is, and this chapter helps to really show what it is.
Code:
 1 [1](http://usccb.org/nab/bible/1corinthians/1corinthians13.htm#foot1) If I speak in human and angelic tongues [2](http://usccb.org/nab/bible/1corinthians/1corinthians13.htm#foot2) but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. 2 And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 [3](http://usccb.org/nab/bible/1corinthians/1corinthians13.htm#foot3) Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated, 5 it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, 6 it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 [4](http://usccb.org/nab/bible/1corinthians/1corinthians13.htm#foot4) Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing. 9 For we know partially and we prophesy partially, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things. 12 At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. 13 [5](http://usccb.org/nab/bible/1corinthians/1corinthians13.htm#foot5) So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
