I have always been uneasy about rock bands. Idolotry sounds silly in today’s modern world, but celebrity worship can’t really be that far off, sometimes, if we’re honest.

I make it a point to like songs, not bands. On a rare occassion, if there’s not too much lousy filler, I like albums. The Wall comes to mind.

The older I get, the more I realize how some of the blatant immorily of rock has fueled the anger and lust of my generation and others. Sometimes I think it is fun to take a popular song or artists and ask what it is really about. It’s not usually something I can do with the kids in the room. Lyrics can be downright stupid without the charged music to prop them up, or hide them.

favorite classic/secular rock band = Cream
favorite “CCM” rock band = Whiteheart

Favorite rock song? Well, there are so many to choose from…
I would have to say “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi:D …of course there are many others I could name as well but I will just leave it at this one.😉

P.O.D., Skindred, ill nino, anythin headbangin or danceable.

Classics: The Doors, Toto, Prince, Michael Jackson(pop i no), Van Halen,Santana, and AC/DC

Ima resurrecting this tread cause I need some good advice/ What would be a good song to buy that is either gospel or rock/pop but makes reference to christian faith( example: many of you suggested Livin’ On a Prayer by Bon Jovi which is an excellent song 🙂 )

( ps: Anyone like Jimi Hendrix??? just got the single purple haze…)

Love Hendrix!

If you like 80’s hair band music (Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Poison, Whitesnake, Skid Row, etc - the most inane music ever made, really), pick up some Stryper. They were an 80’s Christian hair band.

Their song The Rock that Makes Me Roll is really good.

Glad to see so many Rush and Triumph fans on this thread. Great Canadian bands!

My favourite rock song of all time - Lynard Skynard’s Sweet Home Alabama.

So am I the only child of the 80’s who thinks that 99% of 80’s music sucked?

Favorite bands/artists, in no particular order:
Jimi Hendrix Experience
Bob Dylan
U2
The late, lamented Stevie Ray Vaughn

Favorite songs, also no particular order:
Ya Gotta Serve Somebody (Dylan)
Tangled Up in Blue (Dylan)
All Along the Watchtower (JHE version)
When Love Comes to Town (U2 w/ BB King)
Little Wing (SRV version…stunning)

Wow; now there’s a blast from the past! Are you trying to learn Jimi’s lead licks in that song or are you just getting into Jimi Hendrix?

Bands: The Cure, The Pixies, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Midnight Oil, R.E.M., Siouxsie & The Banshees, Elvis.

I can’t choose one best song.
