I think this entire argument is because of modernism.
Women have a very special place in the Church. Christ first appeared to women. Actually that’s one of the most intriguing things about the Gospels to make a case it is historically accurate seeing as if the Gospel writers were trying to make a case to it’s audience it wouldn’t have women discover the tomb seeing as they could not even testify in court in first century Palestine.
Every time in history the Church has went with the political climate, it has reckoned a disaster. The simple fact is the Church is not of the world, it is of God.
If Christ so willed women to be priests he would have appointed them as Apostles. He didn’t however, and some may say he was limited by his era, but this doesn’t seem to hold its argument, because Christ actually did things that Jews would have regarded as even more blasphemous than that.
Christ is the first messiah claimant we know of who even allowed females to follow him, which says a lot. What i am saying is in a purely historical sense.
So the short answer is, no the Church should not conform to the world.

That’s a stretch with regard to the use of word “treatment”. However reading through the thread confirms what I have already seen in other areas where women have appointed themselves bishops etc., the desire for power for the sake of power is the opposite of what is the church.
That’s not to say some haven’t abused their position, but to imply that the church does what she does to oppress people is absurd.

Please avoid using the sympathy angle to promote a wrong idea. The Catholic Church has no authority in this.

CajunJoy, I’m sorry I must be missing your point. As for the twelve being men, yes. But, who was the essential apostle to the apostles, the one upon whom the proclamation of the Gospel rests? A woman! There is foundational scriptural precedent for investing the authority to preach the Gospel to women, and for men in apostolic office to follow the direction of woman, because Jesus himself gave us this example.
Women as priests and married priests are two totally different things. The same concern you raise (how could a priest serve the church AND be a devoted spouse and parent) is already asked with respect to men. And personally in either hypothetical scenario I would probably not prefer it but be thankful to even have a priest.
You also raised a different issue altogether about support and authority. I have no problem with women as managers, CEOs, governors, prime ministers, queen. I would have no problem with women as administrators and “executives” in the Church. I guess I just wasn’t raised that way and I don’t get why I should discredit my own gender.
