62 Catholic scholars (clerical and lay) have apparently issued a “filial correction” of the pope, in the form of a 25-page letter.

A quote from the letter (available now online)…

http://www.correctiofilialis.org/

“With profound grief, but moved by fidelity to our Lord Jesus Christ, by love for the Church and for the papacy, and by filial devotion toward yourself, we are compelled to address a correction to Your Holiness on account of the propagation of heresies effected by the apostolic exhortation Amoris laetitia and by other words, deeds and omissions of Your Holiness …”

Yes, it is extraordinary. Most troublingly, in the current climate there are many others who wanted to sign, but were unable out of fear.

many who post here will call those who issued the correction reprobates.
Instead of reprobates, I vote for ‘the peanut gallery’s version of the dubia’.

it will be played down by some but remember Cardinal Burke is close to issuing a formal correction - this should make a big difference I think - the page for signatures is open so others can add their names.

The document…especially the Latin core section…is a masterpiece of clear and lucid prose. It lays out exactly what the problems are.

I told a priest friend of mine that I’m starting to wish that I could do what Dorothy’s uncle and aunt did is Wizard of Oz, when they saw the twister coming – run and hide in a storm shelter until it had passed. I’m hoping that people will actually read the document before flying in with half-baked comments on either side.

And I miss the former forum’s popcorn emoji.

A holy priest once told me that you know you are angering the devil when otherwise good people attack you for your work in the Church.
This is a horrible turn of events.

I find myself skeptical.
How so? In what way?
A collection of churchfolk decided to publicly scold the Pope.
I don’t claim they couldn’t be honestly motivated and right, but I think the odds are against it.

The lines are drawn now, this can only escalate. History will have to declare the winner.

but a road that is necessary for the health of our church. I believe cardinal burke will issue a formal correction soon.

It had to be done. This could have been avoided. Pope Francis had every opportunity to set the record straight on his own accord, but chose not to do so. Now he must reap the consequences of his choices whether they be good or ill.

perhaps so but the signing page is open so who knows who will sign it. It gives momentum to the traditional view of official catholic teachings. Cardinal Burke has spoken recently about the formal correction and the 2 dubia cardinals left may issue a formal correction soon - he is certainly expected to carry through with it - just a matter of time.

The was the only way in which this ongoing saga could end. Pope Francis has brought this upon himself in many ways. He can continue to ignore the ongoing storm brewing in the Church should he choose to do so and pretend that it does not exist, but it will only cause greater damage in the long run. Answers were needed on these questions yesterday. Souls are at stake.
