Finally, An Answer To Why So Many People Voted For Trump

Decent read. I like this particular chunk:
But, according to Harris, Trump’s appeal is even better understood juxtaposed to the perspectives on the far left.

What is being demonstrated by the far left today is a level of sanctimony that defies all reason. The left has taken the you’re either with us or against us approach, and God help you if you’re against them. If you don’t smile and nod while they scream in your face, you’re a racist, sexist, homophobic, Islamophobic, transphobic bigot and you deserve nothing more than to be torn down and destroyed.

The left is nothing but pure judgement.
Though I didn’t vote for president this year (just like in 2016), this exactly explains it. I agree 99.9%.

The 0.01% is the counterexample of Nick Sandman. He smiled while the left were happy to “scream in [his] face,” but he was still blasted. They don’t want smiles and nods. They want subservience.

Edit: I do think that whoever said it has it right, that the left thinks the right are evil, the right just thinks the left is wrong. And combine that with what appears to be the primacy of emotion, and we get a case where the left is screaming and the right is just shaking their head in amazement.

That must be why I see the word “demonic” used about the left here on CAF.

Yes, and ‘socialists’ as condemned as evil by the Church.

How about disregarding ALL the extremists, both on the far right and the far left? And start to look at others not as mortal enemies, but others with whom we can have a dialog, and strive for mutual respect and understanding.

Let’s look at sports. Two individuals or two teams, both try to win. But they are not enemies, merely adversaries, and after the game they hug the others. That is the civilized behavior.

Even when it leads to things like the Holocaust… justified by the idea of a supreme white Aryan race? I think not. Both are evil.

Historical revisionism… all of the sudden anyone evil in history was a socialist… Stalin represents the extreme left… Hitler represents the extreme right. Both were very evil. I didn’t use the term white pride, but it was still the concept of racial superiority that was used to justify the Holocaust… white supremacy is just one manifestation of various racial ideologies, all of which are wrong.

It’s interesting, but Hitler did not believe that Aryans were entirely white, nor that non-Aryans were automatically inferior.
Not ALL… ONLY the blacks, the “yellow” races, the Indians, and… all the socialists, communists and Catholics were to be exterminated, like roaches. There was no “lynching” performed by the members of the kibbutzes (really socialists), or the “make love, not war” types of hippies (the real communists).

As @twf correctly observes, every kind of extremism needa to be exposed for what it is - pure evil.

Type in “lynching” into google and choose the “images” option. There you can see what the “white supremacists” liked to do.

I think the value of the article comes at the end where he talks about “accurate disagreement.”

And that might be the more valuable point to discuss here as well, instead of re-hashing the same arguments we’ve been having for months, if not years, as it seems like we might be beginning to do.

You could actually argue that the “socialist” aspect of Nazism was more important to it’s connection to the Holocaust. And besides, many more people died under Communist regimes in the 20th century
Actually, extreme nationalism and race based identity politics were far more central to Nazi ideology than socialism ever was. By the mid 1930s, any veneer of “socialism” present in the lawless bands of Nazi SA street brawlers in the 1920s was supressed (and even ruthlessly purged, as in the “Night of the Long Knives” in 1934) and Hitler and the leadership of the party made deals with the ultra conservative industrial barons and military leaders of Germany when solidifying it’s power.

“Socialism” was just part of the name of the party that Hitler took over. The NSDAP (National Socialist German Workers Party) was one of many extreme right wing parties that formed in post WWI Germany, — and most were filled with military veterans, including Freikorps veterans who battled communists, socialists and anarchists in Germany and the Baltic states in 1918-1919. The NSDAP grew out of a group founded in 1918 by Anton Drexler, and at one point “socialist” was dropped from the party’s title (because the party was fiercly anti-communist), and it was just the German Worker’s Party (DAP). It was the German Worker’s Party that Hitler joined. In February 1920, the party executive committee voted to chane the name of the party to the National Socialist German Worker’s Party to attract anti-capitalist laborers. Hitler actually opposed adding the word “socialist” to the party name.

Hitler became the undisputed head of the party on July 29, 1921.

I generally try not to paint with a wide brush, but I’ve observed this too. I remember someone trying to comically present the position in a show when some people turn against someone for not being sufficiently outraged at something that had happened.

There were some incidents during the summer of protesting when protestors engaged in intimidating behavior to people that had not repeated their cries back to them. I thought this was wrong. Inviting someone to join in is fine. But if they are not interested in doing so, move on, Matt 10:24 style.

So many people voted for Trump because they see the democrat party as terrifying and craving too much power.

This forum has completely lost its way if it allows evil comments like this. I guess it’s time for it to end.

Let’s see, nazism, the apotheosis of white supremacy, led to the biggest acts of mass murder in history. Socialism led to… To what again? I’ve lost track of claims.

But while the idea of public ownership of property is intrinsically evil, it is simply ridiculous to pretend that there are not well defined statistical differences between races
Thanks for showing your true colors, no pun intended.

No discomfort on my end. I’m familiar with that line of nonsense. I’m just embarrassed for you.

Uh huh. Thanks for confirming your racist views. Welcome to ignore.
