Finally, Catholic Answers comes clean with the mormon threat ownership.

I think Catholics have been too civil with Mormons given that LDS missionaries invade Catholic-dominated countrys with a message that Catholicism is wrong…I’m sick of hearing LDS claim that that they are picked on…LDS missionaries are polite but offensive…I was once one myslef.

The Book of Mormon is a book of ancient scripture like the Bible, written by a branch of the Israelite nation who were the former inhabitants of the American continent. It was brought forth and translated into the English language in the 18 century by the gift and power of God.
It appears that it wasnt translated that well, what with all the changes to it since the original translation.

That has to tell us something.

We don’t actively preach against the “errors” of any religion.

The mormon missionary manual goes to great lengths to show how a “great apostasy” of Christianity occurred and how for this reason, a restoration was necessary.

Just search for the word “apostasy” in the document I link to above, and you’ll see. Catholicism is attacked, not by name, but certainly by description.

Just because mormons go to lengths to not name names, doesn’t mean people aren’t intelligent enough to know who they are talking about.

It is yet another example of mormon passive-aggressive behavior, in this case, an institutionalized example.

IMO, every time whyme starts one of these threads, it only leads to more circular arguing, bashing, and confrontational arguing. These threads are worthless, and they only serve to keep the animostiy between catholics and mormons alive. It’s really tiresome.

On the other hand, it just reinforces my beliefs about mormons and their so-called religion. And it certainly isn’t gaining them any converts here.
I think that you will need to ask some of the members of this forum about their attitude toward Mormons. I did not put the Mormon threat on the catholic answer home page. That is the problem. The animosity comes from such a homepage announcement. I have no animosity toward any religious group. But some people on this forum do.

Since the catholic faith came first mainly through colonialization that is to be expected. However, the evangelicals have most likely ‘stolen awary’ far more catholics than the mormons. The evangelical churches seem to be packed in latin america. Will catholic answers respond to that threat or are only mormons the target?

Thanks z. I know how busy you are. If I find something that I want an answer to, I can look to you for sources.

It may be a matter of semantics, but in claiming that Christianity went apostate, isn’t that inherently claiming that what they teach is wrong, even if it is not a line by line analysis?

For all their errors, at least the Evangelicals are Christians. I regard the mormon attempts at conversion even worse than an invasion of moslems because of the deception practiced by mormon "missionaries.’ They preach polytheism in the guise of Christianity and dupe the people. Unsuspecting people are torn from their religious heritage and taught a false doctrine. You should be ashamed of yourself for defending such poison.

You know perfectly well what I am talking about. There is a big difference between preaching the truth of your own religion, and publishing negative literature about other religions.

We preach the gospel because that is what God has commanded us to do:

Mark 16:

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

D&C 68:

8 Go ye into all the world, preach the gospel to every creature, acting in the authority which I have given you, baptizing in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

If the Catholic Church believes that it is God’s only true church, why don’t they go door to door preaching the gospel? They are very welcome to come to Utah and preach among the Mormons. I promise you that they will be very well received. They will not have the door slammed in their faces. The Mormons will invite them to their homes, listen to their message, feed and clothe them, and send them kindly on their way.

Hey Z! You’re in Utah? Want to meet for Coffee (or Postum)?

We Catholics could definitely do better with regards to Evangelization. But its pretty amazing to see how many people are drawn to the Church without anyone ever knocking on their door. People clearly are called by God to this Church. But yes, we need to be willing to share the Good News with others. So many people are searching.

No; we believe that some of the things that they teach is wrong, but also many of the things that they teach is right.

No, I don’t. I have lived in Utah in the past, but I don’t live there now.

Glad to hear it. I think it is equally amazing how many people acept the message of the Restoration and join the LDS Church! 🙂

Thank you. I had a look, and I found this passage expressing quite eloquently the LDS doctrine of the Apostasy:

After the death of Jesus Christ, wicked people persecuted the Apostles and Church members and killed many of them. With the death of the Apostles, priesthood keys and the presiding priesthood authority were taken from the earth. The Apostles had kept the doctrines of the gospel pure and maintained the order and standard of worthiness for Church members. Without the Apostles, over time the doctrines were corrupted, and unauthorized changes were made in Church organization and priesthood ordinances, such as baptism and conferring the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Without revelation and priesthood authority, people relied on human wisdom to interpret the scriptures and the principles and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ. False ideas were taught as truth. Much of the knowledge of the true character and nature of God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost was lost. The doctrines of faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost became distorted or forgotten. The priesthood authority given to Christ’s Apostles was no longer present on the earth. This apostasy eventually led to the emergence of many churches.

I’m glad it was “no I don’t live in Utah” and not “no I don’t want to meet you for Coffee/Postum” I’d have been heartbroken. 😛

If you were here in Utah and I could find you, I would knock on your door to share the Good News of Jesus.

Take care, Zerinus.

And did you realize you just verified what Rebecca said? 👍

If I was in Utah, you would be more than welcome to come and visit me, and share your message of the gospel with me. I would have listened to your message patiently and carefully, and been grateful for the experience.

Awesome!

We don’t actively preach against the “errors” of any religion. We preach to them the message of the Restoration, and the doctrines of the gospel as we understand it.
If you preach about a Restoration of the Church, then you are preaching a lie.

You know what’s a good way to resolve this problem?

Tell the Mormon sect to quit preying on us Catholics by goin door to door and leave us alone !

You don’t see Catholics doing that to them do you ??

Goodness, have some common sense will ya.

What you expect Catholics to do?

Stand by and let the Mormons steal them away from Christ’s flock ?!

Jesus counsels us to be wise like serpent and that’s exactly what we’re doing !
Well…Maybe the Catholics SHOULD go door to door; just might help them share their faith with those who would be interested:thumbsup:

As far as standing by and stealing away from Christ’s flock…They (the Mormons) do not “steal” anyone. If someone who is Catholic finally hears the truth for the first time from a Mormon and wants to join the true church, they go willingly! Now, if you really want to go into the Catholic Church’s history of how they aquired “converts” in days of old, we could do that on another thread;)
