The LDS Church has recently published a 6 minute video presentation which I thought is very interesting and professionally done. I searched to see if somebody has put it up on the Internet yet, but didn’t find any, so I decided to put it up there myself. Here it is:

youtube.com/zerinus

This is my first venture into YouTube; and also my first venture in the art of DVD ripping! I have not yet mastered the technique to perfection; but it is okay for now. Tell us what you think. I think it is good! What is your opinion? Does the Catholic Church has anything comparable?

I viewed the presentation. I didn’t think it was very substantial. It asks lots of questions, but offers little in the way of a substantive explanation for the authority and validity of the proposed answers. I like the series of videos at “Catholics Come Home” if you go to this page:

catholicscomehome.org/index.phtml

and scroll down to the bottom there are three video presentations. The “Epic” and “Movie” versions both have more impact than the LDS presentation, IMO.

Peace,

If somebody gets converted because of a “nice” website, their faith is very weak indeed. Don’t Mormons believe that the Trinity doesnt exist and are actually three different gods and Jesus started out as an actual person and, because of his good works, eventually became a god? Not to mention that, in their religion, they believe that Jesus is the brother of satan? Is that all pretty accurate?
Yes.

Thanks for posting the Catholics Come Home website,
I too especially loved the one titled “Epic”, beautiful! 👍

No.

It appears that the three claims in curtishouse29’s post are correct:

The trinity as “three gods” and Jesus as a “pre-created being”

Jesus as the brother of Satan

I personally had not heard of this “Jesus is the brother of Satan” idea before. Quite shocking and bizarre! I make it a point to try to never question another’s Christianity, but honestly now…how can someone even claim to be Christian while holding such a belief?

Mormons, please explain this to me!
Try this:

Wow. I don’t know what to say to all that. I am stunned that the sort of explanations found on that site could be given as reason for completely contradicting the biblical accounts of Jesus and Satan. Even trying to apply principles of charity to your argument, I have no other way to describe it other than wrong.

1 Job 1:6, for instance…shouldn’t it be considered as a more plausible explanation that the verse includes the word “also” to emphasize that normally Satan would not be found among the sons of the Lord? Other verses of the Bible call Satan the father of all lies (John 8:44). So, taking the literal view that Mormons apparently do, that would make GOD the grandfather of all lies!

Please show me anywhere in the Bible where God is described as such.

To be fair, the person was in extreme circumstances (multiple deaths in the family) and suffering very badly. If anything, prayers are needed non-stop for this person.

Mormon missionaries tend to prey on people who are emotionally vulnerable.

It isn’t there as I’m sure you know lol It seems this unofficial mormon apologist really cant defend their faith at all when it is all completely false. It’s like trying to defend 2+2=5. You can vehemently believe it all you want and even have your ways of explaining your belief to what you feel is the correct answer but when somebody points out that 2+2 isn’t 5 but instead is 4 (the obvious true answer), all you can really do is deny, deny, deny. This person has even denied teachings from the offical lds.org website! I found this video on YouTube in cartoon form that teaches about what mormons believe. It is very informative and accurate imo. Here’s the link…

Okay you guys, I have finally uploaded the correct version of this video on YouTube. I have also kept the original one in case someone wants to compare them to see the differences. But I was not able to stitch the last bit into it; so I have uploaded that as a separate file. You can see all three on my YouTube channel.

Problem fixed! I have now managed to join the last two files which I had difficulty with, to make one video file, and deleted all the rest. If you are interested, you can visit my YouTube channel to see the result. I may eventually upload some of the other versions of the video (especially the Asian ones), because although the message is the same, they are all interesting in their own ways.

the finding happiness video was boaring. No offense but all you are doing is proslighting here

I would like to thank Zerinus for starting this thread which lead to ibke posting the Catholicscomehome.org website! I love the videos posted there, especially “Epic”. I have since told others about the site so they could see that wonderful video too, it is really beautiful and delivers it’s message so well! 🙂
Thank you ibke too!

The Bible tells us that Satan is a fallen angel:

Luke 10:

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

That means that before he fell, he was a good angel, worthy to stand in the presence of God. That make him one of the “sons of God,” along with other good angels who stand in the presence of God, as described in Job. But Satan, like all intelligent beings that God has created, had freewill, and decided to exercise his freewill to rebell against God; and therefore he became a fallen angel, and “the father of lies”. It does not mean that God is the grandfather of lies.

Tell me something, in your theology, where did Satan come from? Did God create him, or did he come from somewhere else? If God created him, did He create him to be evil, or did God create him good, and he chose to become evil? What does Catholic doctine say about that?

It is evident that the Mormons don’t seem to understand the distinction between “made/created” and “begotten”. There’s a word of difference. God created the angels (and Satan fell from grace) but Jesus is begotten–He and the Father are one (and not just in mind either–they are of the “same stuff”.

An oxymoron: Happiness being Mormon.

How can you be happy without Jesus as your God?

With Thomas let us proclaim, “My Lord and my God,”
Mormons are happy because they have Heavenly Father as their god and Jesus as his son. It can work quite well. 🙂

When mormon missionaries go from door to door they have no idea who is emotionally vulnerable. But I would have to say that most emotionally vulnerable people would be most likely to change their faith. The catholic church can also benefit from emotionally vulnerable people. We need to remember that Mother Teresa worked among the poor attempting to bring souls to Jesus. The poor are often vulnerable and many were drawn to chirst through Mother Teresa.

Well, to be fair, it is in the non-catholic religion section and, in the header, says it is a mormon video. No need to watch if it doesnt interest you. Also, if there was a real problem, the mods would take care of it.
Sometimes, catholics can forget that this is a non-catholic religion section of the forum. In fact, posts pretaining to the catholic church would probably get moved to somewhere else on the forum.
