First case of Ebola in the US

So that means no one can leave the US either, since we have cases here right now.
Yes, anyone who is being monitored should not be allowed to leave. Look at the problems the CDC has created just by allowing the 2nd Dallas nurse to fly. We (hopefully) are still at a number where we can manage the contacts. Unfortunately W Africa is not. The tweaking I would like to see is if you are an American citizen and would like to leave W Africa then you pay a fine and stay in quarantine for 3 weeks before boarding a plane.

Every time any traveler to or from West Africa vomits and causes a scare 😦
immature news reports with MAD magazine flair.

Every time we have a scare, we sink further into debt. Look at the chain of events from just Duncan. What if the vomiting man on the plane from Nigeria does have Ebola? Stating the obvious, that would mean every passenger is in grave danger. There is no need to be putting people at risk like this. If he wasn’t a citizen or invited over for interests of national security/research, his right to visit must be second to our safety.

What does WTMI stand for? 😊 I looked it up and all I read, was “way too much information”… I am not very good with acronyms.

Yeah, I think I hear what you’re saying, but there are people who say, “What? You want to stop West Africans with bleeding eyeballs from entering the country? Well, obviously you’re racist.”

Why do you think that? People had that same idea after 9/11 and it never happened. I don’t think where at this point.
That’s true, but 9/11 did provide an excuse to gut the Constitution and curtail tons of rights, if not issuing in an actual police state. And I think this is far more serious than 9/11.🤷

At some point the number of contacts being monitored will be too difficult to handle and we can’t trust voluntary quarantine with something this deadly. I would think travel restrictions, securing our border, education, and ankle monitors could prevent martial law.
That sounds like it’s flirting with martial law, though, at the very least.🤷

I will believe it’s not racist if you will rethink the scenario of a bleeding patient being allowed to board a plane? Seriously. I promise.

A corporate lawyer with NO medical background is named the Ebola czar. Just when I thought Obama couldn’t get more inept.

Why someone with a medical background? Because we are soo, reassured by the management skills of prominent hospitals and doctors right now? Do you know how many very busy docs declare bankruptcy in a year? They attended medical school, usually not management school as well. What is the medical background of the average *successful *hospital CEO?

The new ebola czar gave an interview in June 2014 that he still has not gotten over the election of 2000 and still thinks Gore shoulf have won.
He is a political operative. He worked for Biden in the senate when Biden went after Clarence Thomas and worked for Al Gore in the recount. What qualifies him to be an ebola czar?

The comments feature to some of the earliest news stories regarding the Ebola outbreaks were very racist and nasty.

Sadly, the real news today is that many people are suffering and dying in large numbers and there is little that can stop it from happening or growing.

Actually, in all this misery, I am disgusted that Africans are so behind in healthcare. It shames me to belong to a country that basks in worries about stupid things like Obama care, medicare and social security when there is a whole continent of people that lives with so little.

This business of chasing Ebola is very expensive. Clearly at this point, all money and effort should be placed in creating a vaccine.

I pray we find one soon!

So what does WTMI stand for? :o

I am beginning to picture Don Martin Mad Magazine cartoons when I read those vomit stories popping up in the news.

So…tell me this: how many flights are there between those countries and the US? Can I pick a number bigger than zero?
There are no direct, flights, but so what? We have the technology that shows us point of origin. If someone wants to leave Monrovia and catch a flight to Brussels and from there the US, we say no, sorry. If Brussels wants to permit entry, that is their call. If someone from Guinea recently traveled by bus to Egypt and wants to catch a flight, we still would know what country they are from. That is unless they are using a fake or stolen passport, in which case we would be wandering over to the issue of illegal immigration.

Placing these restrictions for everyday people would not hinder supplies and health workers from entering and exiting the country provided they followed the 3 week quarantine. Why are people resisting such a common sense approach? What am I missing?

I feel sorry for the owner of the bridal shop in Ohio.
How will this hurt her business? You can’t disinfect all the gowns and accessoriies in a bridal shop?

Surely this nurse had to know if she was not feeling well she was endangering others by possibly being contagious.
I pray no one else gets sick because of her actions.

That sounds like it’s flirting with martial law, though, at the very least.🤷
Martial law affects everyone whereas an ankle bracelet and restricted travel affects only those who are potential time bombs.

I think asking guests to refrain from entering our home until things get under control is reasonable. Allowing citizens entry is fine provided they endure a 3 week quarantine beforehand. It would be selfish for them to expect a right to endanger the lives of others.

Not sure if you saw in a previous post, that we moved from voluntary to mandatory quarantine, but I read that entails they sign a form. The potential to cheat or have guests is still going to be a problem as some people just can’t be alone. I would actually enjoy being indoors by myself for 3 weeks. 🙂

I love Mad and Cracked!

Seriously though, we are going to be hit with more and more scares until everyone thinks it is just crying wolf, but one day another Ebola infection will pop up. If they had buried the DC story, most people would have been upset. I know I would have been.

Well thanks for explaing WTMI to me. I would rather have too much than too little. 🙂

Peace.

The Daily Mail is reporting Nina Pham has been downgraded to Fair from Good. So I really hope she stays out of any bad condition. Praying to Our Lady of La Vang for her wellbeing and the plight of all victims of this sickness.

Ebola in the U.S.: 1,000 people under some level of watch
As of Friday, a pool of about 1,000 people are being watched for symptoms, have been asked to monitor themselves or have been urged to check with a counselor at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The group includes a handful of people who have been ordered into quarantine, a larger group that is being closely watched with temperatures taken at least daily and a much larger group of travelers who may haven flown on a Frontier Airlines jetliner used at some point by an Ebola patient traveling with a low-grade fever.
None of those being monitored, regardless of their group, has exhibited any Ebola symptoms.
Despite those numbers, the fear of Ebola infection has spread from California to Connecticut —places where people have said they had symptoms such as fever or vomiting, prompting official responses such as sending people home or to hospitals for testing. Schools in Texas and Ohio have been been closed, and false alarms have been sounded across the country.
However it is travel-related issues that have come to fore.
… The CDC also said two other Dallas hospital workers, who had traveled abroad and returned, had been asked to monitor themselves for signs or symptoms of Ebola. They had not been under the travel restrictions that are now in place for those who may have been exposed to the virus at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas hospital.
“There were two other individuals that traveled abroad but are now back, and they both are not sick either nor have they been sick,” CDC spokesman Tom Skinner said.
Those travelers are among the 75 healthcare workers who were involved in treating Duncan, who entered the hospital for the last time on Sept. 28.
Friedman needs to be let go. This is all just too much.
