First Lady booed at NASCAR race

This is incorrect… Michelle Obama took up the cause of military families as one of her pet causes from the start. If you do a little digging you will see that she has been very active in the cause of making sure military families of soldiers deployed were taken care of. Furthermore, the entire Obama family, including First Granny, volunteer each year to pack care packages during the holidays and pack back-to-school backpacks in August for the families and children of military members. So, the suggestion that this is election-year grandstanding is simply false!
 
Grandstanding or not it is inappropriate to have a political figure showing up during a non-political event. Raising money for troops is nice but really? The media is responsible for blowing her presance out of porportion.

I don’t go to concerts/sporting events often. But when I do I dread representive “so and so” showing up to show how great he is. Regardless of if he’s good or not. I really don’t care. I go to watch a game or a concert. If I wanted to watch congressmen I’d turn on Cspan.
 
I think not clapping would’ve been far more tasteful and sent the message with greater punch.

Well, you must have seen a different clip than I because to me it was VERY evident, certainly as evident as the booing that occured when Palin went to that hockey game, which I recall was soundly denounced here on CAF. Typical. . . . .
 
Well, if I knew someone who killed someone or knew someone who encourages killing, then I would certainly not applaud them, I would most definitely try to stop them.

If they can’t take it, they should get out of the game.
 
It was pretty scattered booing, not like how they used to boo Jeff Gordon. And I’m sure she knew in advance that she was going into a constituency that 1)was not her natural environment, and 2) was not shy about expressing negative opinions.

You’ve managed to confuse me, which isn’t hard to do. Are you saying that Michelle Obama is the Archangel Michael, or that she is the body of Moses, or that she is the devil? Clarification, please.

I have a friend who was at the race (a Republican) and he says there was widespread, not sparadic, booing.

But yes, he did say it was less than some driver which folks apparently don’t like. He states that there is a culture of “booing” in NASCAR- plus drinking can add to this.

We’re not talking about hypocrisy here; we’re talking about an expression of dislike on the part of a vocal minority. People that don’t like public officials have a constitutionally guaranteed right to express their opinions. It wasn’t like they were flipping her the bird en masse or yelling a chorus of f-bombs. They were expressing dislike. People that don’t like hearing that other people don’t like them have no business in the public square.

In any case, I though Michy and Dr. Biden handled the situation with class and aplomb.

Nope, if Palin can’t handle the boos, she should get out of the game too. If you are in the political arena (and don’t try to sell me that line of junk that Michelle is not a politician) and you cannot take a “BOOOOO” then you should find another line of work.

It WAS tasteless and disrepectful what they did at NASCAR, and I would say the same thing if it was either Laura Bush or Hilary Clinton or any other First Lady. If one cannot respect the person, then respect what she represents----the wife of the democratically elected leader of the free world.👍

OTOH-----
If she does not want to be criticized, then she should stop trying to interject herself so much into the political affairs of the President and act like she is a second President.

There ya go for my opinion. 😛
 
I would have booed both of them. I can’t stand their political views. They’re not sacred cows.
