What this topic has taught us:
  1. Booing the President’s wife is disrespectful.
  2. Mocking NASCAR fans for how they look stereotypically is perfectly fine.
I don’t watch much NASCAR, but you have to love people who post in a topic about “staying classy” and subsequently making fun of other human beings.
OK, my apologies to NASCAR fans, I just like Jeff Dunham and his Bubba J character.

And while I’m no NASCAR fan I do like how the racers wear their sponsor’s logo’s. Maybe that could be adapted to politicians so they could be required to wear the logos of their biggest campaign contributors 😃

A “T” shirt with the picture of George Soros?

And also their lobbyists.

But, if Michelle were stranded on the roadway with a flat, would any of you stop and change it for her?

The fact of the matter is that she has a staff that far exceeds that of any previous First Lady, many, many times over, that costs me millions of dollars, and they handle just that type of contingency, not that Cadillac One or Cadillac Two are capable of a flat tire.

She doesn’t want or need my brute strength, just my money, and she doesn’t ask for it, and I don’t volunteer it.

I like it! I like it a lot!

I think that was a very rude and ignorant response from those who booed the First Lady. I don’t believe in all of her husbands policies, but even at that she and he do command the respect of the citizens of the United States. What is our country coming to?

Canada is somewhat like Britain I think in that the way that politicians treat each other here are rather raucous and scathing affairs. This extends to the way people treat politicians, and booing at public appearances is not uncommon.

I am not sure that America is not becoming more like that now too. I don’t know if the debates are as raucous, but little informalities, like Obama returning his being addressed as Mr President with a repeatedly and pointedly referring to John McCain as John, sets up an environment where booing is more acceptable.
I was going to say that this kind of behavior (booing) is more typical of Britain than the United States, in which it is regarded as rude. I wasn’t sure about the situation in Canada, but you’ve confirmed for us that English-speaking countries are the most impolite! It must therefore be something about the English language. (I’m sure French Canadians don’t boo.) Well, it might also occur in Italy, especially the opera house.

“Little people”? Are we talking about fairies or the Land of Oz? :o

I think what they did was incredibly impolite. Historically, and I think it holds true in this administration, the First Lady is above politics. She might champion one or two causes for social good, but otherwise stays out of the fray.

That some people chose to boo her speaks to the crudeness which has enveloped America during the past 20 years. We have become increasingly rude towards those we disagree with. I don’t think this is a good trend.
Actually during the past 40 years, but the crudeness has accelerated more recently.

Remember how Moses and Daniel treated tyrants.

Booing is fun . . . but think about how our behavior affects our kids. I disagreed with Bush on everything, but I made sure to never disrepect him or his office in front of my children/students.

Showing proper respect for one’s authority is necessary in order to have righteous indignation, not just useless anger.
