[Emphasis by me] This is nearly word for word what my best friend (LDS) said to me.Before I was baptized Mormon the missionaries and one of the families that introduced me asked me if the “prophet” ever declared polygamy as doctrine again, would I follow it. I said I didn’t know and they said that I should think about this because if that’s what the “prophet” says should be done, then we should follow it. No questions asked. Iwill concede that not all Mormons feel this way, but **I’d say that most “faithful” Mormons I knew told me that if that ever came up they would just hope that their husbands weren’t “called” to have more than one wife, but would follow whatever they were asked to by the “prophet”. **Boy am I glad I got outta that one!![]()
I brought it up specifically because it would tear me up watching her dynamic personality brought to such a low level. She compared it to hoping that a married Catholic might not be called to life-long celibacy but that I would follow if that were the case. It shocked me that she thought that sharing her husband with another woman was better than being called to marital continence.
Polygamy is simply open adultery. And yes the original LDS church taught it very clearly. The fundamentalists are living true Mormonism since current LDS believe that polygamy will be the norm in the celestial kingdom.
