I remember an incident where someone parked in a handicap space. Someone else asked them to move. They moved. No one died.
I think these transgressions should be called out, it helps maintain the social order.

They just shouldn’t be called out with threats or yelling. At most the threat should be “I’m gonna report you” then snap a photo

I consider that a serious threat as do most people. Threatening to call the police or some other state agent on someone really increases the tension.

It is a serious threat, but not a violent one. It can also be effective if preceded with “If you don’t move, then …” thus giving the party the opportunity to correct their mistake without consequences.

No, he wasn’t. He was standing away from her car not next to the window.

What does that have to do with where he was standing?

His previous history has already been posted.

The woman had the choice to roll her window up and move her car to avoid him.
Was she engaging him in conversation?
We don’t know.

It’s totally amazing that here on a Catholic forum we have seen people trying to justify the senseless killing of one of Gods children…“well they shouldn’t have parked in a handicapped area”…“he was violently shoved to the ground”…“he was violently attacked”…“he feared for his life”…I guess to some it’s easier to justify killing someone through man made stand your ground law than to try and justify the killing of another human being in the eyes of God.

If someone fears for their life, they should have the right to defend their life and protect themselves.
It will have to be determined in a court of law now whether it was justified.

Would you have been just as indignant if this man when pushed to the ground had been fatally injured?

There are many unstable, angry people out there. You never know who you are going to cross paths with.

That fear has to be demonstrable. You can’t just shoot a guy and claim “I was afraid”. In this case, the accused shot the man from twelve feet when the physical altercation had ended. A court will decide whether it was justified or not, but from this section of the peanut gallery, the thought that someone parking illegally in a handicapped stall somehow can lead to the logical conclusion of being shot to death for it as absurd.

Really? “I’m going to report you” is a serious threat? So serious that someone is justified in responding to the threat of a parking ticket with gunfire?

Good Lord.

Well it seems pretty clear cut by some of the comments here defending him that he has already been justified…
and I don’t have to be indignant for the simple fact that he was not fatally injured when pushed to the ground…and you are right…there are angry unstable people out there…one who comes to mind is the person who has confronted other people over the same handicapped area…and who two witnesses say had waved a gun at them…

Yeah. It’s her fault the father of her children died that day. She should have known her place, and said “yes, sir, right away, sir,” and moved her car.

No. Fear, by itself, is not justification for violence, let alone taking a life.

One has to actually be in danger, and serious danger, at that, to respond with lethal force. Not just be afraid.

There are people who walk around all the time afraid of everything. Are they justified in pulling out a gun and shooting someone because of some misplaced fear?

That is the world we live in today, especially the large cities - whenever you leave your house, you have no idea who you will cross paths with especially if you live in a high crime area.
I don’t carry a weapon or have a conceal and carry permit.
I am not telepathic so I don’t know what either man was thinking.
However, if the man who was pushed to the ground had been fatally injured or if he had not been armed and the shover had continued to assault him and he was severely injured, my feelings are you would not have any interest in the case.

Reminds me of the case with Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. He was a career bully … tried to harm a police officer … who had a gun. Picked on the wrong guy.

But…he was NOT fatally injured…he WAS armed…he was NOT continually assaulted…and he was NOT severely injured…I totally agree with you that there are dangerous areas and dangerous times in which we live…and while I don’t (as yet) have a carry permit I do carry a pistol in my vehicle…I just don’t agree this was anywhere near justified

No, it’s not the world we live in today. I live in New York City, and have all my life, nearly 60 years, including during the bad old days of the 70s and 80s.

I’ve never needed a gun. And just because someone lives in (unjustified) fear all the time, that doesn’t mean that person has a right to allay his or her fears by shooting people.
