Sorry to hear about Wentz. This is going to make things interesting in the NFC.

Outstanding game yesterday between 2 of the best in the NFL

But I will withhold my comments about the controversial ending… 🙂

The Eagles at least managed to survive and edge the Giants thanks to great special teams play, and 4 TD passes by backup QB Nick Foles!

College Football

The big games are just a couple days away…

Getting up to speed:

The Big Ten is currently 3-0 with Bowl wins by Iowa, Michigan St. and Purdue. Northwestern will play Kentucky today in the Music City Bowl at 4:30 ET. Ohio State will be a 7.5 point favorite tonight vs. USC in the Cotton Bowl at 8:30 ET which should be exciting. Penn State is a 2 point favorite against Washington in the Fiesta Bowl Sat. at 4 ET. Wisconsin also plays Saturday against Miami (FL) in the Orange Bowl at 8pm ET and is a 4.5 point favorite. And Michigan plays Monday at noon against South Carolina in the Outback Bowl and is a 7.5 point favorite.

In other games:

Army ends their season with a 10-3 record after a comeback victory against S.D. State in the Armed Forces Bowl.

Navy ends with a 7-6 record after crushing Virginia 49-7 in the Military Bowl.

TCU rallied to beat Stanford 39-37 in the Alamo Bowl.

Oklahoma State beat Virginia Tech 30-21 in the Camping World Bowl.

Auburn plays undefeated UCF in the Peach Bowl Monday 12:30 ET and is a 9.5 point favorite.

Notre Dame plays LSU in the Citrus Bowl Monday 1pm ET and is a 3 point underdog.

Playoffs

Georgia is a 2.5 point favorite over Oklahoma in the CFP Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Monday 5pm ET.

Alabama is a 3 point favorite over Clemson in the CFP Semifinal at the Sugar Bowl Monday 8:45pm ET.

Any thoughts/predictions? 🙂

Auburn should be favored and should beat UCF. UCF has a really great program, but Auburn is better.

Wisconsin got a good draw against Miami and should win that game.

Ohio State should win, but 7.5 points? I wouldn’t bet on them covering the spread.

Alabama should beat Clemson and Georgia should beat Oklahoma.

I like Auburn to win too, but regardless of what happens in the Peach Bowl, Scott Frost did a great job turning UCF around in just a couple years. He is now heading back to his alma mater Nebraska as their next head coach, and the Big Ten West is going to get very competitive if he can manage to turn the program around there.

What can you say about Wisconsin? They beat the Hurricanes both on the ground and through the air last night in Miami. The Badgers end with a 13-1 record giving them their winningest season in school history, and will likely be considered one of the top teams heading into next season.

Agreed. Even if I bet on games (which I don’t), I would not bet for OSU to cover that spread. But as it turned out, they easily covered winning 24-7 thanks to key turnovers including a pick-six! Darnold had a tough night.

Penn State gave Washington life with a couple of turnovers, but managed to hang on for a 35-28 win. They lost OC Joe Moorhead earlier who was hired as the next head coach for Mississippi State. And while I’m not the biggest fan of the read-option style offense, Moorhead was a large part of PSU’s turnaround success these past couple seasons, so I’m sure his presence will be missed…

The Big Ten is now 7-0 in their bowl games leaving it up to Michigan to make it 8-0 if they can beat South Carolina Monday.
Alabama should beat Clemson and Georgia should beat Oklahoma.
I think all 4 playoff teams are very good and capable of winning, but I’m still leaning toward it ending up an all SEC national championship game. We shall see… But may the best teams find a way to win since that was the goal of the new playoff system!

Anyway, I hope everyone has a Happy New Year! 🎆 🎇

Can the Eagles beat the Panthers or the Vikings?
I don’t know what the Eagles are capable of without Wentz. Foles played briefly today against the Cowboys and went 4 of 11 passing w/ 1 int. 3rd string QB Nate Sudfeld played the rest of the game and put up some decent stats, but couldn’t score. No biggie, lots of backups played today to avoid injuries. But do I have any confidence they can win a playoff game now? Nope.

From what I understand, the playoffs look like this:

NFC - Eagles & Vikings byes
AFC - Patriots & Steelers byes

Wildcard games
NFC Falcons at Rams & Panthers at Saints
AFC Titans at Jaguars & Ravens at Chiefs

Waiting for the SEC haters elsewhere.

Another Heisman Trophy Winner bit the dust at the hands of another SEC DEFENSE. That is why I believe the Heisman Trophy should be awarded after the National Championship Game. Georgia won the game in the trenches as the saying goes.

Bama dominated Clemson.

Oklahoma could have been the #1 team if they played sound defense. Both Chubb and Michel combined for 326 yards and 5 TD’s on the ground on 25 carries. Hard to win like that, yet it still took OT to decide the game.

For the NC game, if Georgia can establish the run against Alabama, I think they can win. But I believe they are currently 3.5 point underdogs…

I was debating showing up waving my Terrible Towel, but it’s too cold outside! 🙂

…and I don’t run as fast as I used to… 😃

This Pittsburgh Dad Classic popped up on my Facebook memories feed 😂
“PITTSBURGH DAD WATCHES ‘JAGOFF IN BAR’ VIDEO”

(It refers to an incident where a “certain local YouTube actor” was caught using bad language during a sporting even in a local bar. I’ll encase the URL [WARNING: BAD LANGUAGE]
in this sentence, to prevent the embedding, but you can still click to follow (fair warning))
