Be honest. Don’t stop to think about the answer you will give.

How do you pray most often?

For me it’s a sign of the cross (in my mind, not necessarily done with my hands) and an unspoken plea.
Mostly quick ejaculations of thanksgiving.

Peace
James

I’m hoping that we can keep this particular thread friendly. I didn’t start the thread to criticize how anyone prays. I hope everyone will jump on board and will not pick apart anyone’s response, as has been done here.

I should have been clear about that in my OP. Of course threads have a way of taking off on their own, so…

Oh, good grief. I just read the bickering between a few of you. Boy, give a jerk a chance…

Is there a way to pull a thread?

Whadd I say? 🤷 🙂

Nah, I’ll be civil, I just mentioned that I don’t pray and that got some comments going.

Who’s the jerk you referred to?

I don’t like your signatures. Biblical miracles were proven with facts. Science doesn’t stand a chance.

Hello All! 🙂

First of all, the language of my prayers are usually very formal using the pronouns Thee and Thou as a sign of respect. I start my prayers by addressing Heavenly Father. I thank Heavenly Father for all that He has done and for those blessings in my life. I speak to Him honestly about my day, week, or events going on in my life. I ask Him for help and power to overcome temptations or trials that I am facing. I also ask Him for forgiveness. I also express my love and gratitude for the Savior Jesus Christ and His atonement. I close my prayer in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Sometimes I pray simply a prayer of gratitude, asking nothing, but thanking Heavenly Father for all His abundance. Sometimes, when I am particularly troubled, I call out for mercy and plead that the atoning blood of Christ will be applied in my life.

Also, I try to pray every morning and evening, at least. Often also through-out the day. My morning and evening prayers are done on my knees. Prayers through-out the day I say silently in my mind.

We also pray as a family, every evening and every morning. Usually these prayers are less intimate than private prayers.

Thanks for the question. I enjoyed the opportunity to share.

Kind Regards,
Finrock

Isn’t it more arrogant to assume that there is one invisible person that will judge everyone and send me to everlasting fire for not pledging my love to him…based on hearsay? And isn’t it arrogant to assume that the one person is the god you worship and all the others are wrong?
No it is humbling oneself to the creator

I pray when I go to sleep, when I wake up, when I’m about to eat, when I’m stressed, when I’m driving to work, when I want the voices in my head to stop and leave me alone, when I just want to say, “Hello, 'sup?”

I don’t pray as often as I’d like. I so want to be with God.

Just as the China Teapot may have mercy on yours. Thanks anyway 👋

After that post, I can’t get Madonna out of my head…

:dancing::dancing:
“Come on, vogue
Let your body move to the music (move to the music)
Hey, hey, hey
Come on, vogue
Let your body go with the flow (go with the flow)
You know you can do it”
:dancing::dancing:
I can’t get that Big Audio Dynomite song, “Medicine Show” out of my head whenever I hear, “May God have mercy on your soul.” :rotfl:

Since you asked, this was your first post, and it didn’t get better after this.

“How do I pray? Not at all.
I mean, I like talking to myself as much as the next guy, but I don’t have to strike a pose to do it. :👋

That was ridicule.

But you weren’t alone. At least one of the rebuttals was just as nasty.

I have another question, but it’s closely related and it would be stupid to start a new thread. I’ll add is here.

Finrock brought up praying as a family. Do you ever pray as a family?

I think when you begin by including “those of no religion”, then you would have to expect that an atheist would respond.

It is his opinion that there is no God, and that praying is talking to oneself.

**There is no use asking atheists about prayers. They do not believe there is any God, the Creator and supporter and sustainer of all. Perhaps they believe that God is created by men themselves. But that is beside the point. There was no need to ask the people of no religion about prayers.

Now about family prayers. We Muslims always perform collective prayers in the mosque five times a day, ladies also join in the prayer. There are individual prayers before that congregational prayer and even after it too. We can perform prayers at home too. Then we have collective prayer at home with all family praying in the leadership of one man, i.e. the Imam.

So that is our family prayers that we Muslims perform at home whenever there is too much rain or other difficulty. We worship Allah and beseech His help and blessings.**

Well, first of all, you asked, so you opened the door on that one.

And, like mkingdomlvr said, that’s how atheists respond when a question such as this is asked to us. It’s not ridicule, it’s the truth. Sure, I was joking around with the pose, but you did ask “how” do we pray. Not ridicule, just honest.

Seems a bit funny that a response such as that will label me a jerk, nasty and to be ridiculing as an initial judgement, but maybe not so funny.

It’s okay though, I’ll exhibit some of the “Christian Charity” that seems to be lacking by some others around here and not take the jerk comment seriously….just yet.

I tned to agree that Bear Claw’s answer was not a nasty one. Nor should anyone admonish him for his “signature” for this is his privilage and perogative.

The OP asks how we pray.
Let us simply drop this side-bar back-and-forth and get back to the conversation.

Peace
James

You are a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you. 👋 🙂

“No religion” can also mean agnostic or those who beleive in God but don’t belong to any Xian denomination or other religion.

Atheists may respond, of course, if they pray. If they don’t pray, why are they answering.

Ohhh! Right. The chance to ridicule is not easily passed up. 😉

Read my post about “no reliigon” above.

In an open forum, any question that asks “How do you…” presumes that the respondents do (whatever), and means that those who don’t (ewhatever) aren’t part of the group to whom the question is directed. Obviously.

Another similar question that was asked on this forum went something like “Why do you hate Islam?”. This, obviously was directed to people who hate Islam. If you don’t hate Islam, there is no reason to respond.

If you don’t pray, there is no reason for you to respond. Well, there was a reason, which we already talked about. 😉

You’ve had your fun. Moving on.
