For Catholics: Would you consider yourself anti-protestant?

After participating in a Bible Study on ACTs the first time, I saw how Paul would talk to the Jews about what their own scriptures taught… like how one day a man would come who would suffer, would die, and would rise again! They all understood that “history” of what they were hoping for.

Then he would introduce Jesus, and how Jesus fit all those hopes.

Perhaps we should think about the same approach… how the early Church operated, what was expected of the early Christians/Catholics, how they worshipped, what the early Saints believed… And then ask them were they could find that same Church today.

The religious wars of
the past and present teach us that religion is a personal,
private matter. What is important is that we conduct
ourselves in a moral manner and obey the laws of the land.
Let God decide who is religiously right!
Very true. 👍

I echo these sentiments. I am quite grateful to my protestant years, for they were invaluable in helping bring me to the fullness of Truth.
God’s peace,
Renee
I feel the. same. I am a convert from Protestantism, and I value what I learned as a Protestant, but I realize it wasn’t the whole truth. I pray for Protestants to become Catholic so they may enjoy all that Christ has for them:)

My catholic family will not discuss faith with me because I am born again. Why is that. They actually have rejected my faith
Perhaps they know that an argument often made is :

“…but at least we can agree on the essentials…”

However… what are the essentials? With our “born-again” brethren, we see that they first declare what they believe… and then call those beliefs the essentials. It is no wonder that there are so many competing man-made collections of belief, or essentials… or faith.

Your family is wise, perhaps, to not try convert you back to the fullness of the faith. I could only hope that your situation is one where you have a zeal/desire to learn all you can. When you do…you will began to see the errors and the shortcomings of the theology to which “born-again” christians ascribe.

If you were once Catholic, and were baptized…,., that is it. The grace of that sacrament is what God does to you, not what you do for God. It cannot be “re-done” because God does not make mistakes, or do it wrong the first time.

You are now a Catholic for life… just one who has been led astray from not only your family, but from the Church which has all the essentials.

I don’t consider myself anti-Protestant. I’ve had encounters with Protestants that have left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I guess it comes down to I don’t trust them; I will always be on guard waiting for them to say something negative about Catholics, Catholicism, etc.

On two recent occasions a friend has had encounters with Protestants where someone just had to include a slam against the Catholic church. It could have totally gone unsaid. It was not said in love; it was like an inside joke “you know how bad those Catholics are”… One of them, was a pastor. I can count on one hand the times I’ve heard a priest has said anything about Protestants, let alone anything negative or critical. One was sort of recent and I was on pins and needles the whole time hoping he wouldn’t go there.

Seriously, if one has to slam another’s religion to make their religion seem better…what do they say again when a person cuts down another person? Oh, yeah, that person has an inferiority complex. And how is this a winsome way to convince me they have something to offer?

I could go on…but I think this is a sore spot for me.
I feel i could have written this post, 4 the most part… I feel your pain but am glad i am not the only one… You must be one of those outspoken Catholics? We need more of them!
(I really like your handle…). God bless…

Well, I’m going to answer this honestly. I am a little anti-protestant but I am not anti-people. I don’t care what people’s beliefs are. If I like them I like them if I don’t I don’t Catholic or Protestant. My difficulty with the Protestant Churches is I see them as all founded on one man’s interpretation of scripture, eg Luther and Calvin and I don’t believe Christ founded a church on one man’s interpetation of scripture. I have a very dear friend who is my closest friend in the world and we have been friends for a long time. However, some of her ideas drive me insane and I feel like saying how on earth can you believe that? I wouldn’t hurt her for the world and put it more diplomatically when we discuss our faith which we often do and we never fall out. My husband was raised Protestant but he doesn’t bother, my in-laws are very Protestant and they are the kindest people. They are good to us, great Grandparents and and all my husbands family are Protestant and there is not one of them you could dislike. However, they hate Catholicism. They don’t hate me, but they hate the Catholic Church. Perhaps I should explain I live in Northern Ireland and there is a certain Protestant mindset here I intensley dislike, not the people. I do believe Protestants also belong to God. If they love God they are his and many of them obviously do and it is evident that the Holy Spirit is operating in their lives. I would say they will experience the purgatorial state however all this is purely my own opinion ad nothing more. I do not dictate to God or anyone else and people are perfectly entitled to disagree with my opinions because they are just that.

Just curious;)

I have been reading alot of threads that just catholics are posting and I have seen some things written that are very negative toward protestants so I pose the question.

Im not accusing–just wondering. I figure since catholics accuse us(not all of us of course)protestants of being anti-catholic---------would you consider yourself anti-protestant?😦
you just copied that of James White and decided to copy him in using it to bait some Catholics and to annoy us…

Hi,

I dont even know who James White is:confused: I actually started this thread because of the reasons I stated in my OP. Because you are new here you dont know me yet. I never say anything here to bait anyone.👍 Once you get to know me and my posts you’ll see:D

justthefacts, ALLFORHIM is basically as Pro-Catholic it is possible for a Protestant to be without enrolling in RCIA. If you read her other posts you’ll see she’s very respectful of our beliefs and has defended us to other protestants.

I don’t mean to sound rude. I just feel if she defends us, we aught to defend her too.

I believe we are brothers and sisters in Christ. I look at the Catholic faith as the full richness and manifestation of Jesus’ conversation with Peter. I don’t look at Protestants as wrong…I look at them as led astray.

hola,

i am consider myself anti heresy… and whatever heresies they have adopted i am against… i am not against individual protestants as people, except for certain protestant ministers who i feel are shamans and con artists like benny hinn or pat robertson… then i am against those specific people because they are the embodiment of heresy…

:nope: No way! :nope:
Protestants are Christians too, just like Catholics. We all have the same goal in life: to one day be in Heaven with Christ. 😃
Our doctrines might not agree but I think as long as we can tolerate one another and accept one another for our differences (sorry, didn’t mean to sound like a hippie there :o ), we’d be stronger in the fight against the devil in this world, which is getting more and more evil by the day. 😦
Boy, every time I go to respond to a thread, I read someone’s post that echo’s my sentiments exactly. :doh2: First of all, I have alot of good friends that are Protestant. There are many things even biblically that we agree on totally. No, I do not believe that protestantism is the total truth so to speak, but we are all Christian which Jesus loves us every one. Do I believe protestants will be with us in heaven? Absolutely. Do I believe that Catholics are a luckier lot as it is 1000% fuller, richer and the total truth? Absolutely. Do I believe we can come together to fight the Evil One? Absolutely.👍

It depends on what a person means by “anti-protestant.” When I consider a person “anti-Catholic” I’m refering to a person who believes that a devout Catholic who follows the teachings of the Church cannot be a Christian, or the Catholic Church is not a Christian church.
So, to apply the same logic to “anti-Protestantism” I would describe “anti-Protestantism” as the belief that a devout Protestant who follows Protestant teachings cannot be a Christian, or that Protestant churches are not Christian churches. I do not believe either of the above, so I would not consider myself “anti-Protestant.”

I don’t think i’m anti-protestant, but it really annoys me when protestants (particularly baptists, maybe just because i’m mostly around them) kind of roll their eyes and everything when you mention your beliefs. And what really gets me started is when they try to claim saints as theirs and not catholics! Like when they fight with me about St.Patrick being “christian” and not catholic. First of all Catholic is Christian. In fact, we invented christianity.(of course Christ did, but we were the first to follow it). And second of all, he was a bishop. Hard to be a protestant bishop in the catholic church. But of course, to them i made all that up. Plus, our priests sell indulgences. At least they did hundreds of years ago. Some protestants have trouble forgetting that. That causes me to have a somewhat aggressive stance against protestants.

🙂 If I am with a protestant and out for lunch and we ask God’s blessings we are in agreement.

If I am with a protestant and we are anti abortion we are:)

I would much better like spending my time and prayers against war and sin in this world.

I’m married to the nicest methodist (christian) in the world. 😊

I would say this is what I was trying to say in my post. Thank you for putting it better. I HATE this Protestant mindset I was talking about that states all Catholics are going to hell as they are not ‘saved.’ I have had people say to me that Catholics don’t believe Christ has risen because they have three dimensional images. Catholics believe you can commit the same sins over and over and still be forgiven by a Priest. Catholics don’t believe in Christ’s redeeming blood as they feel they need a Priest and believe the Priest forgives them, not God. Catholics believe the Saints mediate which is wrong because Christ is the only mediator and they deny the blood of Christ because they believe in Purgatory and believe things which are not taught in the Bible and therefore wrong. I have problems with all this! Of course, not all Protestants think this way. I do think that Protestant theology lacks substance, it is very black and white. If things are black and white I believe you miss the deep things of God. Again, this is just how I see things but it has nothing to do with people and nothing to do with judgement.

It depends on what the Protestant believes and what his church teaches. It also works in reverse …“there is no salvation outside of the church”.

I love my Protestant brothers and sisters. While I do not consider myself anti-Protestant, I do grow frustrated at times when many Protestants tell me what my faith teaches and it is wrong. I will defend my stance with the Catechism, the Bible, early Church fathers, etc., but they don’t believe me because they read a tract that stated something different. Believe what you want, that I believe has much to do with free will, but do not suggest you understand the Catholic faith when, in fact, you do not (you meaning anyone).
